I pity dhoni fanboys will be missed after he is gone.
I dont have problem with fan. But some here take it beyond fanboyism. He failed 9-0 on our tours abroad but they don't agree he failed. He is done for test matches at least for now.No fresh ideas. It also because if you see the no of tests he played in ranji. I dont think he ever captained his state ranji side as well.At least in future we select captains who do their part in ranjis.

Pujara has experience leading a side, could be a decent option or we would have to gamble with Kohli like SA did with Smith.

I pity a guy jisne indian cricket team ko apne baap ka adda samakh rakha hai. I pity the captain who thinks his place is secured till the next world cup.

So we are blaming Dhoni for lack of bowling options or for lack of death bowling skills or for letting teams scorre 300+ scores regularly.. ?? :two_thumbs_up:

I had the same reaction when I read the headlines... but then I saw the actual video of that interview and seems that he is doing what a responsible leader should do. His goal is to win WC2015.. Check that video on Cricinfo and you'll know how he tried to explain his comment from 2012 or 13 and could be interpreted wrongly..

I dont think ppl are worried abt ODIS. He is the best as it gets. We are worried when he says I will be the captain all three formats. He is a poor test captain. Who is he to decide ? The selectors have a say and if he performs poor they will find a new captain. http://ibnlive.in.com/news/cricketnext/ms-dhoni-keen-to-continue-as-india-captain-in-all-three-formats/443757-78.html

Agreed.. he shouldnt captain or actually play tests if we can find a better option. However, problem I have is when people questions his motive in picking players.

Because he was going to be investigated for his ownership oh shares in sports management firm. He has clear conflict of interest.

If Dhoni wasn't associated with CSK, would he still be captain in all 3 formats of the game? India needs to move on, at least in test cricket. I can see shades of Azhar in Dhoni's captaincy. Have raging turners at home to keep the home record intact and keep coming empty handed from abroad. RSA tour was an absolute disaster for India. Got slaughtered in ODI's, threw away winning positions in back to back matches and almost lost 2-0.

Exactly. In the 90s, we played to our "strengths" and mostly won at home. The last 2-3 years under Dhobi has been no different. One major reason is that some ATGs lost form and retired or were kicked out. The second major reason is that we never had match-winning bowlers overseas except during a short period when Zak was backed up sporadically by some pacers. But, the third reason is Dhobi's negative captaincy and his unwillingness to try out new options.

Defensive might not be an accurate depiction of Dhoni as captain. He is more clueless than defensive when it comes to fast bowling especially in tests. What he did in Joburg test in name of playing attacking cricket was just rubbish. The most worrying factor of Dhoni both as a player and captain is ,these losses does not seem to have any effect on him as captain and his awful performances as batsman seem to have zero effect and I don't think it is going to change anytime soon. He is so secure about his place and that is very bad sign for Indian cricket.
Fully agreed. I like the guy but it's time we moved on. He has been a proven failure in overseas tests. There is a thing called accountability, but sadly there is no such thing in Indian cricket more so when his godfather is at the reign of BCCI. I still want Dhoni to continue as the ODI/T20 captain till 2015 WC though but in tests I'd rather play DK in his place in England and Australia.

M2C summed it up perfectly. Everything has a shelf life. Its not just an Indian thing. The British press are totally carnivorous about every sport and have laid into Cook badly. so its most certainly not as if Indians are the only ones. As for as the OP goes, I think Chappell just wanted to sell more books and tried to be as sensationalist as possible.

We didn't have any great fast bowler in the 2000s as well. Yet under Ganguly, Dravid and even Kumble we were able to challenge the very best in their home conditions. Dhoni is clueless.

Playing devils advocate if Michael Clarke is defeated 3-0 in SA in the series coming up then his away record to England India and SA reads 10-0 Will people call for Clarke to be sacked? One thing i will say about Dhoni compared to Azhar. He is a lot more aggressive at home than away. We are now clean sweeping or white washing sides. In the 90s I believe we only white washed England in 92. So at home India have their mojo now with this side. Jadeja + Ashwin at depth to the batting and bowling at home. I dont think a team with Sir has been defeated at home.

It's not just the results man. In England, although Australia lost 0-3, they never looked so clueless. In Australia's case it was mainly the batting which was letting them down both in England and in India. A captain's major role is his ability to marshal the team on the field. Clarke has never been under the scanner for that. Even in those losses in England almost everyone agreed that his captaincy was never an issue.

Dhoni is tactically not aggressive. Also he gives clean chit to his bowlers even when they warrant criticism. Like against Australia in the ODI series when asked about Indian bowling, he said Australia was also bad . What it does is , allow our bowlers to be crappy as they know they have a skipper who will back them no matter how bad they are. I know it is bowlers responsibility. But he has to be little more active from the very start. Lot of captains start worrying much early try to do things different. Dhoni starts worrying until everything is beyond scope. REmember how Srilanka chased 414 .. before one final burst from Zak and Nehra India was going to lose it comprehensively. He has to push his bowlers hard. He has to be tough with them. The only way him being tough with a bowler is by giving the ball to Kohli instead of them lol. That is his toughness.

All i am saying is now a days i dont think barring south africa teams have great away records in the last 3 years. England have been blanked twice away to Pak and now Aus, they have drawn 1-1 in SL and came close to losing in NZ where they drew 0-0. They won away to India. Thats their only away series win. Their away record in is like 10-3. India have been blanked twice away to Aus/Eng Aus have been poor away from home and blanked once. Nz blanked WI and before that WI blanked NZ at home. Pakistan have a 9-1 home and away record v Aus/England/SA their last test series win came in the mid 90s against these opposition. Their record v Aus is like 15-0 or something home and away. The point is away wins are hard to come by. Not only for India but a whole host of countries barring south africa.

Also, if a player of Hussey's stature retires because of Captain in India, there would have been major uproar in India and Indian fans around the world. And then there was Homework gate and Warner fiasco.. Right now.. even Aus doesnt have any other option than Clarke.. Personally, I think people did not blame Dhoni for 0-8 defeat was because of various other reasons than Dhoni... Our senior players didnt click, veeru got injured, bowlers were not affective, Eng team was on rise etc....

I don't want to couple that 0-8 loss with this 0-1 loss. NO matter who captained result would have been the same. It was like perfect storm. Terrible batting/Terrible bowling
