Vijy Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 He is definitely good enough as a wicketkeeper in any condition' date=' as a batsman outside the SC, there is no keeper in India who can lay claim to be a better batsman than Dhoni either.[/quote'] DK averages higher than Dhobi does outside Asia (or outside home). Besides, DK hasn't played regularly in the Indian test team in the last 3-4 years and his one-off chances further reduced his avg. Besides, I reckon that there are keepers who could avg higher than Dhobi outside SC if given the chance.

Even Saha showed a better technique. I do not think anyone of them is going to do worse than 21 he averaged in last series. Thing is he does not have the technique to survive in overseas conditions consistently.
cowboysfan Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 the next captain is Kohli and i would there wont be anybody pitying him,he trusts his bowlers to do their job.

Dk is not a better test batsman than Dhoni, definitely not at home and not away either. Besides, DK is not half the keeper Dhobi is, who is actually a very good keeper. He is not acrobatic or flashy in the Healy-Boucher mould but a very safe pair of mitts in the Gillchrist mould.

vvvslaxman Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 If Pausewin bowls better abroad, he would be another choice. Make Rohit Sharma captain. We won't have to worry about captaincy affecting his form :cantstop: as he can't get worse.
SLICKR392 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 He is a fan of Vinay kumar :cantstop: And Unadkat. He could do a Johnson for us.
rkt.india Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 He is a fan of Vinay kumar :cantstop: He dropped Vinay Kumar during Zim ODI series. :winky:
adi B Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I had the same reaction when I read the headlines... but then I saw the actual video of that interview and seems that he is doing what a responsible leader should do. His goal is to win WC2015.. Check that video on Cricinfo and you'll know how he tried to explain his comment from 2012 or 13 and could be interpreted wrongly.. this is getting funnier by the day
Sachin=GOD Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 What captain Kohli does under pressure :D and then abuses others...

Besides, DK is not half the keeper Dhobi is, who is actually a very good keeper. He is not acrobatic or flashy in the Healy-Boucher mould but a very safe pair of mitts in the Gillchrist mould. DK is very much a better batsman than MSD abroad, though certainly not at home. And yes, he certainly is a poorer keeper. As for the keepers who deserve a chance: IMO, this is what I'd claim, at the moment - present form taken into account: Better bats than MSD outside SC, poorer keepers - Pappu Patel, DK, Uday Kaul (?) Better keepers than MSD, prob avg 20+ overseas - Saha Some may claim that MSD has a decent record outside Asia, in the sense that it is 30+. There is no doubting the fact that the man was a better overseas bat a few years ago - contributed in series win against Poms, and did OK against SA in 2011. But right now, I'd only back him to score 20s.
Marut Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I can only wonder whether the vitriolic nonsense in virtually every post you make a result of a perennial ulcer or are you one of those hotheaded guys who has no fuse whatsoever. Shameful, really that except for attacking established players and wishing everyone bowled as fast as Lee, you contribute little. PS: I dont think we have to worry about the next Indian captain- Dhoni is the man for the job for the next 4-5 years and I believe he is the best option we have. Kohli might get eased into it in the future when he is pushing 30 but till then, we need Dhoni. Yes, he is limited- he is unimaginative with his field placements and rotates his bowlers poorly. But on the plus side, he is one of the rare Indian captains who has not had his performance shot to pieces due to pressures of captaincy. Be it Azhar, Tendulkar, Ganguly or Dravid, one thing Dhoni has over them is that his own performance does not seem to suffer despite the burdens of captaincy. And for that, we can only be thankful. For if the next guy follows the 'classic desi pattern' of being 60% as good as non-captaincy years, then we are gonna be royally screwed if Dhoni is removed anytime soon, for it means we get 60% of Virat or Pujara. Dhoni's own performance does not suffer because he is hardly capable of a match winning performance when we tour. He can score plenty of 10s and 20s cameos - and that is all about Dhoni's ability to not buckle under the pressures of captaincy.

Make Ishant captain and his performance probably won;t suffer too :hysterical:

Dk is any day a better batsman abroad than dhoni in places like sa,aus, eng where u need basic technique and footwork.dhoni is a safe keeper as he does not attempt many catches which go between him and first slip.dhoni is good against spinners but against pacers he is average.dk Problem has been keeping to spinners and he was getting up too early,I have seen him improve in that area in dc.gilly is underrated as keeper .

CSK Fan Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Ishant sharma is not Dhoni's selfish choice.. he has given lot of new pace bowler a chance... Bhuvi' date=' Mohit, Shami, Unadkat, Yadav etc. It is just that other than Shami, not lot of other players have been effective. Bhuvi and Yadav failed to impress in SA ODIs.. Not Dhoni's fault.. [/size'] So after succeeding in CT, in the Pak series and doing ok on very flat pitches against Australia, Bhuvi was dropped after ONE SINGLE match in SA. It was his first tour and he was nervous. Compared to how he treats Ishant, who was picked for test series after ONE SINGLE success after years of failure. and you have the audacity to say he is not biased towards Ishant and gives all bowlers chances? Yeah right!

Azhar, Tendy, Ganguly all had dips in performance after captaincy- home or away. Dhoni ma be ordinary away, but there is virtually no difference between his performances before or after captaincy- overseas, home or in ODIs. Dhoni is one player who does not seem affected by the burdens of captaincy in his personal performance. All the others I've mentioned were noticably worse- home or away.
