CG Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 One thing that people who hate Ishant need to understand is he can't do much better than this. He is a limited bowler because he doesn't have a lot of pace, the seam position is wobbly, doesnt bowl a consistent line and length and doesnt have intelligence to work a batsman out. He doesnt have a lot going for him to pick wickets consistently in test cricket. You can blame the captain all you want for selecting Ishant but what can Ishant do other than turn up and be Ishant. He can't wake up and bowl like Steyn or Marshall just because Indian fans want him to. You will get one good performance followed by 10 mediocre efforts from him. That's the best he can do. The thing is captain seems to be happy with his bowling, so he most likely won't be replaced and Ishant thinks he is doing a good job because captain is happy. That's the long and short of it. Sorry u have no idea.Ishant is not a limited bowler but an gifted bowler who has lost his way due to constant changes of action and technical problems.When he was at his best during the 2008 against australia in india ,There are few bowlers who could have bettered his performance on flat decks against strong aus batting lineup. He started out with a five fee against pakistan ,He was raw and had a wobbly seam and decent pace 130-140ks.He improved his seam position under venky and after the practice match before sydney test everything clicked and after that till the t20 wc 2009 he was very good but he tried to gain the out swinger on advice of various coached copied zaps action and everything has been downhill since. I still believe he can turn around things as he has done it earlier but he has to be dropped and said to go work on his game with his coaches .Believe me when everything clicks and he gets the wrist position sorted with that insiwnger he will be an good bowler.

I rate Morkel and Broad higher than Ishant,they still average 30 in test cricket..I think Ishant should try to improve his ODI bowling,don't rate him as a test bowler.
saneindian Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 When he was bowling 150+ in Australia in 2011-12, hardly got a wicket. Bowls low 120s here and ends up with 6 wickets. Such is fate. Wont bother much about the scrambled seam but his run up and approach to the crease at the moment is all messed up. Also, this over reliance on short pitch bowling is so frustrating to watch. Hit the right length (which he did yesterday) and keep bowling there should be the mantra

You have to be an exceptional bowler to do well consistently in tests. Ishant doesnt belong in that class. Forget Morkel and Broad, even Johnson and Anderson average around 30.
