Tailender Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 It's only Dhawan and Raina... Dhoni and Rohit can sometimes have problems, but all in all they have it under control. I feel indian batting plays short bowling well enough. ... it's just that Raina ruins it for everyone :cantstop:

Dhawan looks comfortable sometimes playing the hook and pull but sometimes gets into bad position and gets out. He needs to work on that. Trying to score off the short delivery always has an element of risk. Just because you get out on a short delivery, doesn't necessarily mean you are not good at playing it. Raina and Jadeja though are hopeless. I think Ashwin is a way better player of short deliveries than Raina because of his height and also because he plays pace well. It wouldn't be a bad idea to send him up the order. He doesn't have a great average in ODIs but he has always batted way down the order and had to hit out in death. He has an average of 40 in tests after all, so batting at 6 could get more out of him as a batsman.

In cb series it was pacers who won the game with bhajji contributing and sachin winning us the chase. Even in ct pacers bowled well to get early wickets . Outside of SC if ur pacers do not bowl well u will not win.Spinners in australia,nz are going to play defensive roles and if pacers pick early wickets then only then can come in to play. We anyway use 5 over of parttimers even with 5 bowlers. Can we afford 5 batsman with jadeja and ashwin not contributing with bat?
CG Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I would exclude Shami for Aaron. He needs to be rested. Yes he should be rested.He has been bowling so much and even a small niggle should warrant rest as he is indias best bowler and do not want him to be burnt out or injured for long.

It has slowed down recently, has been helping spinners, has short boundaries, and should bring India good memories of comfortable wins in both the Test and the ODI on their last trip to New Zealand. India don't discuss their XI before a match, but there are two places that will be debated: Suresh Raina's and Ishant's. The recent slowness of Seddon Park should give the two spinners another go. Unless India make an extremely bold move of playing Stuart Binny ahead of a specialist batsman or bowler, it is unlikely he is getting his debut here. Pitch and conditions The groundsman Karl Johnson is not sure why it is happening, but Seddon Park is observing a recent trend of slowness and assistance for spinners. However, it has rained heavily on the two days leading into the match so there could be something in there for the quicks too. It is going to be interesting to observe the pitch's behaviour, especially if it is overcast on match day too.
