It looks like the only guaranteed spots are the following 1 2 R Sharma 3. Kohli 4 5 6 Dhoni WK 7 8 9 M Shami 10 B Kumar 11 Obviously some combination of Raina Yuvraj Rahane will be in the middle order. God knows who the spinners will be since both have done poorly in foreign conditions (Ashwin Jadeja). Shami is looking like the only bowler that can take wickets abroad consistently. I'm pretty sure Kumar makes it. No idea who of Yadav, Ishant Zaheer makes it. Would be nice if there were some locks maybe 7 out of 11 at this stage. Unfortunately the big guns Dhawan Raina Yuvraj Ashwin have been awful abroad. Very concerning.

Raina and Ashwin will depend on how they perform in the Aus tour before world cup. Hopefully Rahane secures his spot at no.4 in the Nzl series. That would mean only the 3rd seamer spot be vacant for the XI. Hopefully Aaron or Yadav seal it .

Certainities: Shikhar Dhawan Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli MS Dhoni Suresh Raina Ravinder Jadeja R Ashwin ---Shami Ahmed ---Bhuvi Kumar Others: Ishant, Varun, Umesh, etc. 1 more spinner, maybe even Harbhajan. Don't think Mishra will be considered but I think he actually might be the left-field pick. If Rahul Sharma has a decent IPL he won't be a bad option IMO as leggies might get more assistance in AUS. There will be 1 shocking pick in that XI. If we take a backup keeper it has to be Karthik, just for the fact that he is a lucky charm! :p T20 WC win, CT win, + IPL/CL wins :p and provides decent cover as a middle order bat. Reserve batters: Rayudu, Rahane, and hopefully Pujara. Note: I think it is a certainty that Raina will be a part of the squad, but it remains to be seen if he will be a part of the playing XI. India are putting faith in the lad and I think he will deliver with some crucial innings soon.

He should be dropped from the ODIs, but is a gun in T20s if he gets going. Rohit should play more freely up the order and not rely on Dhawan's aggression as he did in CT.
kubrickian Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 World Cup is still one year away. Nobody can say for certain who will remain in form and play consistently till then. As of now, only Kohli and Dhoni look like certainties. In Australia, you need to score off the short deliveries. Raina, Dhawan, Jadeja are suspect in that department. Rahane is still to settle as an ODI batsman. Rohit is very inconsistent. Shami and B Kumar are good prospects but not world class by any stretch. Our death bowling is still a weakness. We dont have a third seamer or a seam bowling all rounder. Our spinners wont be very effective there. I personally feel India's chances in WC look dim as of now but hopefully, the team will get better over the course of the next year. But lots of work needs to be done if we need to get to at least the Semi Final stage.

Three guys who won us the Champions Trophy not being a certainity doesn't sound right. Dhawan, Rohit, Kohli, Dhoni, Raina, Jadeja, Shami, Bhuvi are certainties in the 11. Ashwin, Rayudu , Rahane, Umesh and Aaron will also be there at the time of the WC.
