vvvslaxman Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 With Yuvraj we had multiple bases covered by him. He was a good part timer. good close in cordon fielder. Great innings builder plus a great finisher. We have lost it now. How can India make up for it. Even with Yuvi we had guys like Irfan, Yusuf playing from time to time so that India always had genuine extra bowlers to finish the quota in addition to them being a handy sloggers down the order. Now we have Jadeja, Ashwin, Bhuvan, Shami and Ishant. That is seriously a longish tail for a one day side. With due respect to Ashwin's batting skills he cannot pull off 30 in 20 bals, or 20 in 7 or 8 balls most of the time. With a brittle top order we will depend on the tail all the time to get some 30 or 40 runs. Don't think last 5 can do it as consistently as some of the other international teams. Rahane is not a slogger essentially an innings builder. India has to rework their batting line up and team selection to get the right balance. Infact squad selection has to be done first. Raian/s form is also going down. If Kohli's form goes down that will be the day we will start losing to every other team.
alexander Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 India are completely dependent on their middle order. In modern cricket, runs from 7-11 or 8-11 if you want are crucial. Only those sides that have this dimension will thrive.
ThePhenomenal1 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 jadeja is the spinner, need him to improve his batting so that he can get the team the runs needed. if we get just one seam all-rounder who can do the job, that will be enough. other than that, we just need wicket taking bowlers. Plus, yuvraj was in poor form with the bat
vvvslaxman Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Abhishek Nayar is one choice. If we can accommodate Aparajith as an opener he can also be used as a bowler. Atleast Bhajji was able to hit some bowlers infront of the wicket unlike Jaddu whose only scoring area is third man against quick bowlers.
bulbul Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Aparajith? guy is not evne bowling in FC. And why you want a middle order bastman as oepener?
vvvslaxman Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Aparajith? guy is not evne bowling in FC. And why you want a middle order bastman as oepener? Rohit SHarma does doesn't he? He can come in place of Ashwin. He bowled regularly for under 19 games. I suppose he is more than just a part timer.
bulbul Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Thats different story? just because he was made a opener doesnt mean you pick whomever you want and make him opener right?
vvvslaxman Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Thats different story? just because he was made a opener doesnt mean you pick whomever you want and make him opener right? Keep him in the middle.. whatever. Jsut find another opener. It doesn't matter. He will be more handy than Ashwin as he is an outstanding fielder as well.

Will be interesting to see how he does in domestic Odis and in IPL if he gets a chance with the ball
GolGappe Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 This team doesn't look ready for World Cup in Australia. With Yuvraj's departure, we really lack in power hitting department in lower order. Team have batting depth till number 9 and our number 7 shouldn't even bat at number 16 position if one existed in ODI's. Too much pressure on Kohli and Dhawan in every game. No seam bowling all-rounder in horizon. Bowling attack based on two over-rated spinners will not get India too far in World Cup.
Cricketics Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Hahah. First thread since I made you see Yuvi be back before 2015 wc. Many more to come. All those who think we are a settled ODI side already. Lot of shyt still need t o be sorted out. We are far from settled right now. We lost 2-0 to South Africa and are already down in the series 0-1. Settled sides give hard time to opposition by winning the first game of the series. We havne't been able to do it. Yuvi will be back soon.
G_B_ Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 the present yuvi is 10 runs more than jadeja and more expensive with the ball that Jadeja. The fact is India are missing a good batting allrounder. Nayar is the only one who we have who can bat in the top 7 and also complete his quota as the fifth bowler. Irfan just keeps getting injured.

saneindian Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 How about waiting till the series ends to know if there really is a problem with the batting line up? Rahane has had one innings, let him play all 5 matches before jumping to any conclusions. Also, Dhoni should be at 5 and Raina at 6. Preferably give Rayudu a go as well at 6, let Raina sort out his mental issues in the nets.

Nothing against Rahane. Rohit is a better slogger. Also he doesn't have to wasted 30 balls up the order. He can do better against older ball. Rahane against newish ball. May or may not work for Rahane. The move may fail if Rahane fails as an opener and Rohit fails as a middle order (again). But you have to try to maximize your batting potential whatever way possible. This is one way.
Old guy Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Tbh India's balance is screwed up cos of out of form openers and number 4 and 5 Also we lost this match cos of fielding of New Zealand and I have no doubt in next game we will come back hard

Overall as part of world cup preparation having 5 relatively ineffective lower order batsmen will hurt us bad in very tight chases . Having Yuvraj as a specialist bowler gave us tremendous flexibility which we will miss now.
vvvslaxman Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 Harbhajan might get back if Jadeja also proves to be ineffective with ball.

His batting has been useless outside subcontinent too our only solution is to bring in chepu and ask him to give us solid starts so lower order tailendermdo not even come in play

Having Yuvraj as a specialist bowler gave us tremendous flexibility which we will miss now. Yuvraj was only helpful in India, not outside. Having said that, no spinner would do magic in these conditions. Even Narine was carted around in last series. Dhoni's strategy is poor. You cannot play 2 spinners who are not going to take many wickets here.
