Switchblade Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/top-stories/Harbhajan-Pragyan-Ojha-must-for-Tests-Ganguly/articleshow/30741080.cms Former India captain Sourav Ganguly today took a swipe at the selectors' decision to omit leftarm spinner Pragyan Ojha, especially after a 10-wicket haul in his last Test. Pointing out that India's weak spin department contributed to the 0-1 series loss in New Zealand, Ganguly said Ojha and veteran offspinner Harbhajan Singh were a must for the Test side. "I'm highly surprised at Ojha's exclusion. He has the ability to take five wickets," Ganguly said today. Ojha got a 10-wicket haul vs the West Indies in Sachin Tendulkar farewell Test, but only to be dropped for the touring Kiwi squad. "If you see his career, he got five wickets in Mumbai in the first day, in the same conditions where Ashwin got three. He has got the variety to take wickets," Ganguly said. "I don't think pacers are a reason for India's defeat. But it's our spin department where we're lacking. All big teams have great spinners, be it Muttiah Muralitharan or Graeme Swann. "Dhoni has to think about his spin department. Jadeja has no variation. We also need to bring back Harbhajan Singh. He has good record overseas. Both of them (Harbhajan and Ojha) are a must especially in Test cricket," he added. A day after calling Dhoni's Test captaincy 'obnoxious', Ganguly said Dhoni has to be a little more brave in taking decisions. "He has to be bold in taking decisions. He has to take risks to win. Sometimes, his decisions are negative like his decision to field after winning the toss," Ganguly told a regional news channel today. Terming Virat Kohli as the future India captain, Ganguly further said that Dhoni should remain the captain at least till England and Australia series later this year. "We need an experienced captain. Keeping his record in one-day cricket, he deserves to lead India in two more series in Australia and England. "If he fails again, then it's time to bring a new captain. There's no question of Dhoni's captaincy in ODIs. He will remain the captain till World Cup. "It will be a much bigger shock for a youngster to recover from nine Tests defeat. Especially since we are looking at Virat Kohli as the future captain." "Virat Kohli is the obvious and certain choice for captaincy. He's the best player the world in one-day format at the moment. But as I said we have to see till the Australia series." Dhoni's captaincy has called for lot of criticism after India suffered their fourth successive away Test series defeat to make it 10 losses out of 12. India had earlier lost eight successive Tests in England and Australia, besides also losing ODI series in New Zealand, South Africa. Ganguly further pointed out that Dhoni's T20 team had made two successful group stage exits in World T20s in 2010 and 2012.
Gollum Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Why does Ganguly love Darty so much? He can't buy a wicket in domestic circuit, gets ass ***** by fatso Binny, noway should he be in contention for Indian team, we have to look beyond these oldies.
Yoda-esque Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Ganguly bringing in obnoxious weed to replace obnoxious captain
Switchblade Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Why does Ganguly love Darty so much? Lord Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Yeah those who did not play are the saviours and must :cantstop:
SLICKR392 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 And there he goes with his usual Harbhajjan and Dinda statements.
vvvslaxman Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Lot of nonsense here. Other day he called his moves obnoxious. Now he says he should lead India to England and Austraia AGAIN. To add to this joke he wants Bhajji in the side. It further establishes what kind of a joke captain he used to be lol. His obsession with Parthiv patel cost us a famous series win in Australia.
SLICKR392 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Add his inclusion of Sehwag to that. Because Rohit is looking incosistent he wants a guy who struggled to cross 20 in the Ranji to fit in the middle order, when the likes of Jadhav has been scoring tons for god knows what!

moniker Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I thought ganguly never liked left arm spinners. :what:

The Outsider Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 "It will be a much bigger shock for a youngster to recover from nine Tests defeat. Especially since we are looking at Virat Kohli as the future captain." And the shock will be easier after the England and Australia tours when the number will be close to 20? :hmmm:
Gunner Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Ganguly bringing in obnoxious weed to replace obnoxious captain  :hysterical:
adi B Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Some biased, senseless comments given by ganguly.even dravid was being too diplomatic.just call a spade a spade ffs!
SLICKR392 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Some biased' date='senseless comments given by ganguly.even dravid was being too diplomatic.just call a spade a spade ffs![/quote'] Yeah, but this guy goes on to say that only Dinda, M.Tiwary or Harbhajjan could make any difference.
Lord Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I would play ojha non-stop for 10 tests home and away. Coming on the back of not all that great a record to topple cannot possibly be worse - and no musical chairs at least. He does average close to 5 wickets a match isnt it - would be unfair on the fellow - he deserves it. thats mainly in India.he averages 53 away and hasnt even outside SC. though I agree we need to identify one guy and back him for fair bit.but I'd prefer Ashwin
Lord Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Yeah ojha takes the ball away - if that - for the right handers and we have seen enough of ashwin for a while anyways. And hes your specialist spinner he will be expected to work on it full time - whos to say he wont become better bring in a bit of variety even. With jadeja for me hes too one track and am at least not sure whats his typical daily training script - focus on bowling/ batting? No of hours to be devoted if any. lol one side you say back Ojha for 10 Tests, then say Ashwin has played enough when hes played 4 Tests in conditions where no offie has done well and slate Jadeja for one series. Thing is atm all our spinners need help from the pitch to do anything else they are clueless. There's nothing special in Ojha that he needs to be backed more than Ashwin and Jaddu imo.

Yea all 3 are there are there about. One guy gun fielder, left arm variation is more effective than off spin so that works for him. Half decent no.8 batsman. Other guy can almost bat like specialist batsman, but totally clueless with Kookaburra balls in unhelpful conditions. Also he can be a slip fielding option. Ojha despite picking 9 wickets in his last test, is out of favor for his lack of prowess in other departments. Unfair. But it is very hard for him to break into the side outside India. India will only consider the overall value they bring to the side. In India equation changes as spinners are the game breakers.
Lord Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 10 tests = 5 home+5 away. oh okay. The problem with that is Ashwin and Jaddu perform well in India and provide batting and fieding bonus. So it's tough to pick Ojha over them.maybe can play as 3rd spinner only
