Underrated keeper? He has fast hands and is good at effecting stumpings and run outs, but that's about it.

The only place outside SC Ganguly averages 40+ is England at 65.35 thanks largely to twin centuries in the first 2 Test matches he played. Ganguly averages 34.8 in Aus, 27.7 in NZ, 36.14 in SA, 36.75 in SL and 40 in WI. There's also the small matter of Ganguly being only a batsman and not a WK.

A puer batsmen with ~35 avg in most countries would not survive in the Indian batting linup . He was plain lucky to have played that many tests for India .

You can't just leave out WK which is a full-time job. There's a reason why the likes of Sangakkara quit keeping in Tests to concentrate on the batting. Btw, Dhoni averages 39 in England and 54.4 in NZ.

People bringing Dhoni's test batting as a parameter have no clue. If I am travelling overseas for a test tour I would pick at least 4 wicket keepers from players of past ahead of Dhoni.

A 44+ overseas average isnt ordinary, its bloody good. pretty good.Except for australia, during his entire playing career Ganguly would've walked into any other team's middle order. a century on debut in england means he deserved his spot fully.
