The two things that made Yuvraj great - timing and hand-eye coordination - seemed to have deserted his game altogether. I wont read too much into his struggles against Narine yesterday. He's always been patchy against high quality spin, so no surprises there. But he seemed to be great difficulty to even get the ball off the square, which was unheard of during the previous years of Yuvi. Yuvi is one of india's all time greatest cricketers and a even more inspiring human story. But his time as a India bat is coming to a close.

If I am not wrong, in the last stages of a game where the opposition batsmen are going for big shots, captains tend to send their best players to the boundaries. Their relatively better speed and agility stops boundaries and stops 1s from turning in to 2s

1st of all, like what many have suggested, "drop Yuvraj" would be a better title for this thread The dilemma to continue to play Yuvi or not is a tough one. It's more like a heart vs. brain issue where your heart says "yes", while the brains says "no". The team management is probably in the same situation One way to answer this question is to look at some examples in the past. The Pakistani team is a great one to study esp. in the context of what not to do. Take the 2003 WC for example where Pak fielded a past the best Anwar (scored a 100 against Ind to help Pak get to 270 odd on a 300+ pitch), an out of form Inzi (who not only did not score but even ran a few people out), etc. These guys were legends but did not click because of various reasons at that point in time. On paper Pak's line up was very good, but the results were not translated on to the field. Yuvi's case is probably similar. He has an amazing record and has won Ind many games (much like Anwar and Inzi). But there is no doubt that he is short on confidence. His body language tells that. The positive thing is that he is trying hard but still things are not going for him. The good part is that Ind's next game is against BD where Ind can take a few chances. I would say why not play both Yuvi and Rahane in the game and see which one is shaping up well. Let Rahane open and send Yuvi at #3 (or even open with Yuvi) - that would increase the chances of both of them getting to bat for a longer period. Along with batting, we can also see how much Rahane's fielding makes a difference (esp. the direct hits). Once Ind plays Aus, it should have its best 11 sorted out.

India already have kohli & rohit who can bat throughout the innings so no need for rahane. But do need a powerful striker who can clear boundaries at will & yuvi is still the best man to do it.

Even if Yuvraj fires in one or 2 games here,he is done,will not stand a chance in the 2015 WC,His bowling will not be effective there anyways and he will be a walking wicket on those tracks at this phase of his career. Big Yuvi fan but sad to say his time his up.
