Mumbai Indians - IPL 2014 Official Thread

Mumbai is suffering from what many championship winning teams suffer from – Most of their players must have gone into full-diva mode. Till last year, they had very limited success in the tournament despite MI being far and away the most expensive team in the tournament. Their owners were by far the richest and splurged the most $$$ among all. They bought the biggest names, had an extensive coterie of coaching staff. This must have put tremendous amount of pressure on their players to win and they responded brilliantly last year. But once success was tasted, every one of them must have begun to behave like Shoaib Akhtar clones. Batsmen asking for higher batting positions, bowlers asking not to be bowled in PP overs, stars taking training sessions off and so on and so forth. This is what happens when you win. There’s no longer the driving force to be committed, show up for practice on time, work hard and put in your drills. They’re still high from all of the champagne from last year. Of course, making some bad personnel decisions does not help. Choosing to invest in a 37 year mike Hussey was quite risky, but they might have brought him in for his sheer professionalism. Letting go of Johnson was also a questionable move. For all practical purposes, he singlehandedly won them the final. If Johnson does not dent CSK’s top order in the finals last year, we chase total down like it was a robber. Very surprised to see him.

Mumbai has a distinct track record of mis-handling some star talent over the years. They had Dwayne Bravo for 3 years and never got anything meaningful out of him. They paid a ton of money for Maxwell at a time when he was still a couple of years from turning into the damaging t20 bat that he is. They let go of Johnson, the one player who can probably take credit for being the single biggest reason for their win last year. And then of course, swapping Hussey for Smith.. The list goes on.

the unvarnished truth must be apparent to even the most die hard bambi fan now. they won purely by framing fraud charges against the real champions last year. as a result, they deluded themselves about their real prowess and now their true colours are showing. without the vital aid of ambani's world famous corrupt and unethical tactics, they would have struggled to reach any IPL semis.
