Nasser Hussain as a commentator

Does anybody else think he is great, or just me? I am beginning to rate him -- as 2nd best to Benaud. Easily the best of the current lot we have -- probably along with Bumble.

He disliked by most of ICfers because of donkey comment. But he actually makes good observations and provides good commentary.

Atherton, Hussain are all good commentators. Some of them will make 1-2 comments which you don't like but it is the problem with that specific comment and not the commentator. I loved the way Nasser Hussain took on Ravi Shastri on his "Jealous about IPL" comment. Hussain stood his ground for his right of expression and that's good to see.

He offers real insight into the game as opposed to commentators like Harsha Bogle who say obvious stuff like "it would be real good for South Africa if they picked up a couple of wickets here and not allow too many runs as well."

He was praising India a lot today along with Bumble and Athers in fact after the match he was giving his point of view to SKY Sports Studio and he was praising Virat the way he played plus the Indian team as well also said that the England team can learn a thing or two from Indian team.He said that its the Test matches where we are inconsistent but with the white ball we are a good team.

The guys in the studio I think asked him about Fletcher Nas said that he had lunch with Fletcher and Duncan was already planing for the England tour plus he joked when it was time to pay for the lunch both Nas and Duncan looked at each other and the Duncan paid for the lunch :haha: . The guys in the studio like Bumble,Athers and Nas it seems are Pro Fletcher all of them said that last time during 0-4 whitewash of ours we had seniors who were out of form but now with the young guys Fletcher is building the team could be wrong but Bumble said that Fletcher must have mentioned to the BCCI bosses after the defeats that let him build a team with young players and drop the seniors out bar Sachin for whom Athers said he had every right to decide when to call it a day.Nas also said that for the 2015 WC in Australia we have to plan in a different way as its not going to be in subcontinent.

It is always way more interesting to listen to ex-captains – especially those who have captained their sides for an extended period of time – commentate. The way they see and absorb the game is significantly different from the way a regular player typically does. That’s why guys like Hussein, Ganguly are always focusing on state of game, momentum shift moments, key wicket here, pivotal six there etc. Because they know and recognize those events that can **** a game in the favor of the opponent because as captains, they were constantly trying their best to prevent those from happening.

Nasser me thinks has toned it down in recent years with India. Especially after the donkey comments. (he was right to call them donkeys).He was openly against India before that. Just take a look at his commentary in India matches in the 2009 and 2010 T20 WCs. I think the ECB have had a quiet word with him as have sky sports.He tends to be careful and guarded about what he says v India. Bumble has always been truthful about everything. He does not like the IPL and fair play to him. He decides not to comment on it. Bumble will praise you when you do well and be critical when you do bad. A fair commentator. I will praise good cricket. Even if England are being smashed like say Yuvraj smashing Broad for 36 you can hear it in the voice of Bumble. Atherton is the snake in the grass. His venom is reserved for the column he writes for The Times newspaper or even when he is at some function like the cricinfo awards etc. Ie he shapes his views according to the audience. Does not like the IPL and unlike Bumble makes it a point to bring it in the conversation. If a streaker runs out during test cricket and spanks the batsman Atherton will somehow bring the IPL into his columns. .

Channel 9 was better with Benaud, Lawry, Greig and Chappel combo.
