A 100 runs opening stand in England is enough for Pujara and Kohli to cash in. I don't trust either of the opener, and neither do I trust Gambhir. Bottom line is we don't have any reliable openers in the squad. Crucial to have good stand since we might play 5 bowlers and tail will begin after Rahane. I trust VJ more than Dhawan at the moment but that doesn't mean much because there both about on the same level but given Dhawan displays in warm up matches and his tendency to reckless and loose shots I would be tempted to play Gambhir .

maniac Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Would take innings like the 70 odd he played in England in 2007 ...He plays % cricket in ODI's but for some reason becomes a slogger/Hack in overseas tests.....in S.C he can do a Gilchrist once in a while taking the game out of reach of the opponents coming in at 6 or 7 but his overseas Test game is pathetic. The sad fact is 250-5 or 200-5 can still be converted to a 350-400 kind of score in test cricket from most teams,but Jaddu,Dhoni etc at 6 and 7 means we will find ourselves at 250-5 to 280-7 in no time and our tail is the worst in test cricket and more ofen than not we will be and have been bowled ut under 300....Unless one of our top order player produce a huge knock we will be bowled out under 300 more often than not. As I said we want atleast 2 of our top 5 to hit a purple patch
Austin 3:!6 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 As a wicket keeper batsman he is damn good. With an avg. in late 30's he has 6th highest avg amongst all wicket keepers ever played. People are over critical of his overseas record too. He avgs 55 in NZ, 39 in Eng, 29 in SA. Not too bad.
