They have just got a huge mandate so if they resort to horse trading or try to force defections then they would get a lot of bad press - they just do not need that right now. Let the situation settle down and then quietly talk with many of the JDU/RJD MLAs who want to leave the party before next years elections - when election happens next year BJP will be in a very strong position. Right now even if they force some MLAs to leave, probably Cong and Lalu will give support (Lalu may give outside support) in the name of secularism and BJP will be left red faced just a few days after a massive victory. Better than Bihar they should work on Jharkhand and Uttrakhand - situation is much more wobbly there and much higher chance of forming the Govt bcoz independents are in play so even if the independents withdraw support from the Govt and offer it to BJP, it won't look as bad as in case of Bihar. SG, we know BJP lot better. Dont we? BJP is in no mood to replace Nitish government. In fact, there is a section in NDA who strongly wants Nitish to come back to the alliance. He has been contacted as well. But the Nitish is gone on a EGO trip. So until re-election, BJP wants JDu to continue the govt. They do not want RJD and Cong anywhere close to JDU. Nitish is strong on not joining any other groups. He went solo just to prove the point which backfired as Modi got a huge mandate. I see Nitish back in NDA by next assembly election. Nitish, Sharad getting portfolios and BJP taking over the state govt with JDU's support.

In Nitish Kumar’s outgoing Cabinet he was Minister for SC & ST, Backward Caste and Extremely Backward caste welfare. He contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Gaya (SC) constituency and lost badly to the BJP’s Hari Manjhi, coming in fourth.He got 131,828 votes while the winning BJP candidate got 326,230 votes. A senior BJP leader claimed that Manjhi had been desperate to get the BJP ticket from Gaya but that party leaders had not been convinced. For Manjhi the BJP’s denial to take him in their fold simply came as blessing in disguise. Three days after losing elections, he becomes chief minister. True that Manjhi is one of seniormost MLAs in the state. Though he is not a recognisable face and the wider world may not have heard his name outside of Bihar, Manjhi has been a minister since 1980. Governments have come and gone, parties have come and gone and chief ministers have come and gone but barring a few brief periods, Manjhi has been a constant feature in the state government. He was first minister in three Congress governments. Then when Lalu Prasad Yadav rose, he joined the RJD, only to ditch him for Nitish when the latter was on the ascendance. His record as a minister has been, to put it kindly, below par. It is perhaps a sign of our times how cynical we have become that a honest man's resignation is looked at with cynicism. As a Bihari I can assure you no CM has bothered to resign in last 30 years on his own. Perhaps we, Indians, deserver how our leaders lose and give the audience a big middle finger. . What his resignation changed or will change? If he thinks people voted against him, it is not just against him but against his govt. then he should have recommended to dissolve the assembly or should have stayed over and tried to win the people of his state again in the next one year. It was a step out of his ego, nothing else.

The most prominent leader Sushil Kumar Modi lacks charisma and doesn't fill a Gandhi Maidan in Patna unless a Nitish, a Laloo or a Shatrughan Sinha shows up. Outside of Shatrughan Sinha think of a leader from BJP that is known outside Bihar?? You wont find one. 3) Jeetan ram Manjhi, the CM in waiting, is someone you wont invite for a cup of tea. I should know, he lives not too far from my home in Gaya. He stands in election on one platform only, as an extremely backrward group. He contests from Gaya, like in 2014, because it is a reserved constituency (lets not start on that scam), and that really is his USP. And of course even then he comes in number 3. Now he will rule Bihar. The guy who couldnt win Magadha will be at the head in Patliputra. Chanakya would have been proud. But if any state can bear this, it would be Bihar. Still optimistic. The Jd(u) was formed when various powerful local leaders came together. Today internally there is a Yadav v Kurmi fight going on in between. The current CM represents Nitish's attempts to block Sharad Yadav You look at the RJD and they have a most narrow and stable base with the Yadavs.

Another reason could be that elections are coming next year and JDU may not do well so Nitish resigned so as not to be blamed for another loss - he will control the Govt but if they don't win then responsibility will go to Sharad Yadav and Manjhi.
G_B_ Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 The only way i see Jd(u) winning in 2015 is if they ally with Lalu prasad and the congress. That in itself brings issues of seat sharing. Will the congress be happy with 10-15 seats? Whats the share between JD(u) and RJD? If they fight alone i feel Paswan + BJP will win. Together the these two parties will get about 35% 40% of the vote. RJD-Congress will get 30-35% and Jd(u) 25%-30%. The real game changer in Bihar politics was Paswan aligning with the BJP. Without Pawan who provided the BJP with the edge the BJP would be stuck. People just assumed Pawan would go on with Laloo and Congress. Reminds me of the RPI in Maharashtra. Another Dalit outfit which polls 5-6% across every assembly seat in maharashtra. Useless on its own but allied with the major parties, deadly in closely fought mumbai region.
