vvvslaxman Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 there were so many errors even in the mumbai game. Mumbai were not good enough to take advantage. The point is everything changes. Look at football. Tikki taka football ruled for close to 5-6 years. Its not been replaced by a counter attacking fast pace football played by Madrid. thanking and tactics go stale. When Viru bats like this very few captains can do anything. Having said that he always looks helpless if an individual batsman comes at his bowling very hard. Trend continues. May be he is captaining for long it might give an illusion. But if you look back. Valthaty, Bisla, Maxwell, Viru.. Bailey during ODI series he just lets it drift and drift.
Old guy Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Dhoni always gives a feeling his team has the most helpless bowling attack. In comparison Punjab had more noobs bar Johnson. He just does not intervene. at the right time. thats what i always feel and reason i want another captain for our young bowling line up no disrespect for him he s great in many ways and has given so much to indian cricket but this is part of his captaincy which is just not good enough with average young attack we have on paper csk attack is so much better than kxip attack but some how they have looked clueless and this is not illusion it always happens we jsut have batsmen to cover it up and win
asterix Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 There's nothing new here... Whether Dhobi captains India or CSK, he tries to give a feeling that he's helpless with the kind of bowling he has, tries to pack the team with batsmen... But with his atrocious captaincy, bowling changes, field placings ends up screwing up and then starts blaming his bowlers and actually goes on to hound them, some way or other (behind the scene)... Everybody knows that bowling is weak, them why did he dropped Hilfy and took another batsman, Dhussey in the team? With his swing, Hilfy could've definitely taken out Viru tonight.. With such a batting lineup. Where's the need for Dhussey? Did he used Dhussey as a bowler tonight?
youngindia Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 the perennial problem is the management has idiots who think too much of allrounders and have no clue how to win by batsmen and bowlers alone. come auction time, they will be looking for the first allrounder they can snatch instead of finding a decent international pace bowler and they retained bravo who has never been in a winning ipl team the problem with dhoni is he looks for more options(which is what the allrounders are about) but does not understand its subordinate to matchwinning capabilities.ironically he is forgetting his world cup win came with seven batsmen and four bowlers there are too much foreign batsmen for comfort with the exit of Vijay or badri both senior FC players they should be looking for the top or emerging Australian and SA pace bowlers...they get the less heralded of the aussie pace bowlers the best year was 2010 when there was Bollinger, ashwin and murali. since they have deluded themselves into a state of complacency. the csk attack as I mentioned would be extremely lucky to not get pasted in 3 knockout matches even two good eliminator matches would be lucky as it happened in 2012...but 3 is a bit too much Yusuf may have spoilt our only chance with that innings of his and anirudh, someone shoot this guy!
mancalledsting Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 not trying to troll. But dont you think its time to say goodbye to Dhoni-Flemming combo? Its been 3 years since you last won a trophy. Dhoni's tactics were poor i thought today. For one he came too late as a result of blind addiction to the left hand right hand combo. Dhoni has had a great run. As has Flemming. Nobody can deny that. But everybody has a sell by date. So if you fail to win the Champions League this year. Will you consider changing Dhoni as captain? and try somebody else like a Raina? Dhoni has blind addiction to many things: Left hand/ right hand combo Spinner who takes the ball away from batsmen- esp off spinner to left hander Ishant
undisputed chap Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Imo csk needs to look beyond ashwin & jaddu, as ashwin has become predictable & jaddu was never good in t20s. They need to pick some good domestic leggie.
yoda Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 We are stuck with Dhoni and his Kewlness. Good enuf to get to the top 4, from there on things have to fall nicely in place. Still better overall record than all other teams in terms of playoffs/finals/championships, so can't complain too much.
Straight Drive Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Dhoni probably was referring to Baz, Jaddu and Dussey. Dhoni is a negative captain in a way he asks his bowlers to bowl leg side at international level and hence has to also give them negative field. The issue is that in T20 guys like Maxwell reverse sweep and make the heavily manned leg side field irrelevant. It will be very difficult for Aswhin especially to bowl a attacking line because he hardly does that in actual matches. Once again we see that if the wickets do not assist the spinners a lot, Dhoni's captaincy skills get exposed, be it international or IPL level. Loss by 24 runs is too much especially in T20 format and that too in playoffs.
Temujin Khaghan Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Dhoni kept whining in the post match ceremony that he did not have fast bowlers who could trouble the opposition with speed when they were gunning CSK down. But dhoni doesnt do anything to encourage fast bowlers. He always prefers trundlers over fast bowlers. But he keeps crying, he doesnt have one. Umesh Yadav not being given a spot instead of Pankaj and Pandey is a joke.
Detonator Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Dhoni is going nowhere. They might buy some uncapped bowlers. It doesn't matter what the fans think. I don't agree with Flemming though. He is the biggest reason for the CSK's strong show across 5 seasons.

vvvslaxman Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Once they start playing in chennai again they will have some advantage. On flat tracks he is a poor captain. He does not intervene. He doesn't even do damage control.
G_B_ Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 problem is, will the knockouts be in chennai? If anything CSK have done remarkably well on flat tracks as a team. They have historically struggled on seaming decks. CSK are good enough team to get into the knockouts. But if i feel they lack that final punch.

Dharma salsa is one place where CSK could not put bat to ball in one of the match. Besides last year MJ got wood over them. Having said that tony had a very average side most of the IPL history. Kohli despite having far superior side could not do anything. All said and done he made sure his team did not hit the rock bottom for 7 seasons whereas every other team did that.

vvvslaxman Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 csk had average sides ? :hysterical: Until bowl linger joined they had by far the worst bowling unit. Ashwin started doing well only 3 seasons ago. They had parani amaranth, bala lee, tyagi, gony, jakati. Albie. Only decent bowler they had was washed up Murali. In batting Hayden, Raina, Hussein that's about it. Tony sucked balls in t20 for long.
