G_B_ Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 I sort of agree with Saurav Saha overseas does appear to have a more compact technique. Probably wont average in the 40s but will average in the 30s. More than Saha though, the big issue for me is if Dhoni is removed can Che or Virat absorb the captaincy and also play as they usually would? After the ipl kohli just had i am not too sure. Will give it to Pujara. But i think Saha needs to be groomed as the back up to Dhoni. Much better than DK
putrevus Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Dhoni has got zero tons outside indian subcontinent. That's right ZERO!!! And how long been playing!!! Jeez pathetic And you say no one can do better!!! Frigging hell. Its this kind of nonsense which keeps ishant in team so how many tons does Saha has outside or inside, scoring tons against weak east zone does not make him a great player. Saha has played 5 international matches and his highest score is 34 how the heck can u say he is better than dhoni. Dhoni needs to go as captain but as player nope there is no one there , Saha will get his chances in tour games and odi series, if he is any good let him score some runs before talking about replacing dhobi. Dhobi other than scoring a ton has done many things he may not be a match winner like Gilly or prior with bat overseas but he is best in Indian cricket history. Where I have problem with Dhobi is him being captain but since Kohli has not been good initially with captaincy and it looks like it is affecting his batting which is more important , who else is there to captain. Dhoni has not scored a hundred in odis either away from sub continent but he still is second best bat in the line up after Kohli so do not get too hung up on 100s. timing is everything in life dhoni has that going for him. if guy like dinesh karthik who got so many chances did something dhoni would be replaced, it is not that easy to replace a guy like Dhoni. now Saha is second guy behind Dhoni , he has got odi series on his own let him show what he has got.
G_B_ Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 serious question has any indian wicketkeeper scored a century outside asia? Engineer comes to mind in England. Cant think of anything else.

Austin 3:!6 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Dhoni is a better keeper to spinners whereas Saha is much better to pacers. In home Tests, Saha cannot replace Dhoni - because Dhoni will score a lot more runs than Saha as well as keep to spinners. But for overseas Tests, since we will play 3 pacers - Saha has a definite edge keepingwise; and his ability to graft around and play fighting knocks maybe useful because Dhoni has been quite poor overall in terms of batting (overseas). Saha can surely be tried out and given a run (in ideal circumstances). In ODIs, NO ONE can replace Dhoni. He owns that format and can probably play till 2019 unless his game really falls. In T20Is, Dhoni should give up his spot for the younger lot - Saha/Samson/_____ whoever is in form. Dada you know what I think and also what BCCI/ selectors think? Listen it carefully : "Dhoni should and will remain our captain and keeper for tests, ODI's and T'20s." So all these debates of retirement just add the post counts and nothing else.

rkt.india Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 so how many tons does Saha has outside or inside, scoring tons against weak east zone does not make him a great player. . You will never know until he gets a long run. He might not have played a big innings but his 35 showed he can fight and is gutsy and is willing to grind it out in the middle which Dhoni has been lacking in recent years. Players can only improve once they play more international cricket. When Dhoni made his test debut, his FC average was 32 despite playing on flat tracks in Jharkhand. While Saha plays at Eden which has been favoring pacers in recent years and carries Bengal batting on his shoulders. He deserves his chances based on FC performances if nothing else.

keith Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 serious question has any indian wicketkeeper scored a century outside asia? Engineer comes to mind in England. Cant think of anything else. yeah, there we go. You guys are talking like Dhoni has to justify his position as a batsman. He's batting at 7. Sure, his record outside asia is pretty horrid, but it's nowhere near bad enough to be considered droppable.
rkt.india Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 untested players are always better players according to our resident wheel chair analysts Every player is once untested and those untested players replace nonperforming players based on their domestic performance. Rahane and Pujara were also untested but they still replaced Dravid and Laxman and Dhoni is no different.
tweaker Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Why is Naman Ojha not considerd.Hi is a decent wk batsman

Rahane and Pujara were also untested but they still replaced Dravid and Laxman and Dhoni is no different. Pujara and rahane had impeccable fc records avg more than 65 even then they only became part of this team once big guns retired, why because you just dont replace proven guys with unknown hoping they succeed. Saha has done no such thing, dhoni again and again proved in odis he is best yes he stunk in tests but it is not like he is replacing adam gilly. Saha is getting his chances so it is upto him to grab them,

velu Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 What has Dhoni proved overseas? He has done nothing overseas since 2008 Aus tour. captained india .. is that not enough ?? :dontknow: his batting record might not be worse than dada as a capatin ( though i didnt check it )
rkt.india Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 captained india .. is that not enough ?? :dontknow: his batting record might not be worse than dada as a capatin ( though i didnt check it ) kya ukhad liya captaincy me?
putrevus Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 What has Dhoni proved overseas? He has done nothing overseas since 2008 Aus tour. What do u want him to do score hundreds, no he cannot but the guys like saha have not even shown that in india they are better batsmen than dhoni so how can you assume they will be better than dhoni overseas. Once dhobi is sacked as Ĩaptain only then his place in the Team will come into question. Dhobi is a verry limited player and he also knows it but he also knows it that there is no one there , he is not an idiot when guys like karthik or saha played in the same eleven with dhobi they never kept the wickets, even in ipl also dhobi does not let them keep wickets. Saha might be better ( i highly doubt it ) as u say but unless he scores 100s in matches dhobi misses , dhobi cant be kicked out. Dhobi is one lucky sob he never is underpressure.
King Tendulkar Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I agree saha may not do great. I am not sold on him particularly. But we don't know until we try someone else What is proven is that Dhoni is hopeless as overseas test bat and hopeless as captain. That is proven
putrevus Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 kya ukhad liya captaincy me? Why are we pushing 0-8 record on him alone, all the heavy weights including the great sachin were there and played atrociously . Dhobi would have been long gone if CT win along 4-0 whitewash were not there. What can he do when the lead spinners of his team could not even buy one fricking wicket when they had other team on ropes.you cant fault dhobi there, his team selections were atrocious, I still have no clue behind some persistent selections. Only reasoning behind those selections i can think of are he fears the new guys turn out to be jaydev unadkats , where he was made to look almost comical .

How many chances did Saha get? Dhoni is a great ODI player, great temperament, but his limited technique exposes him in tests overseas and thing is he does not show the grit and determination while batting overseas. Does not exude any confidence these days. He is a beast in India, but Saha is certainly a far better alround batsman, even WK against pacers.
adi B Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 i just despise dhoni the test captain.he will yet again play pishant, probably drop rahane for jadeja.the bowling will continue to suffer, england will pile on tons of runs and our worst fears will again come true :((
