Speeds and Performances of Pacers and Spinners

Recommended Posts

We have seen Srinath and Zaheer improve a lot.

Even Ishant is bowling much better, with clearly improved accuracy and seam posoition,  in the last 2 years after his performances dipped sharply following an impressive first season.

Just as a full flagged Pacer if I have to choose one among Bumrah, Ishant or Pandya.. I may pick Ishant still.

had he played these t20 on green tracks , he wud have also got tremendous success.

Ishant is now at his peak and bowling 140k on flat indian tracks ..on these tracks he wud have been bowling 145k with high bounce....he wud have created havoc on bangla tracks.

I wud say that had india played ishant and umesh on these green tracks - they wud have created equal damage as Nehra and bumrah.

Exactly....Rohit, Dhawan etc. gets so many chances yet we cannot cut some slack for a bouncy 150 k pacer who has been injured 4 or 5 times but still shows the heart to bowl fast.

Indian Selectors will need o support Aaron and Umesh Yadav.

They are right that the performances have not been great but still these 2 are like Rohit Sharma in batting..at least investing in Rohit is giving great returns on ODI and T20.

I strongly request selectors to consider Umesh n aaron for ODI and Tests.

Morris does not bowl 147ks he is a more 135-140ks.Same with stokes, jordan.Speed varies a lot in high altitude areas speed guns show higher reading.Pakistan and aus have 3-4 genuine quicks each.Actually In test matches where u have to maintain speed i would say Aaron is the quickest in the world over a test match.

India Pak matches effect. These are t20s where u have to bowl 4 overs.

Yep Aaron could be even faster than Umesh on an average and hence needs all the support.

Umesh Yadav , Aaron , Ishant Sharma , and Shammi need to really pull up their SOCKS now as Dhoni has become really fond of Pandya and Bumrah( and also Nehra) which will mean that Pandya and Bumrah will become permanent members of ODI 11 too.

that actually means only 1 additional pace bowler in ODI...I guess Ishant , Umesh and Shammi will fight for that position now. I am assuming that Ishant, Umesh and shammi could be preferred to Bhuvi.

for Tests- Pandya may become a Sure shot selection very soon as RISHI and BINNY are not serious bowlers at all to give him any competition for Tests. The kind of talent he has shown.. it makes sense to invest in him even if he gets OUT at low scores initially.

Bumrah umesh aaron and ishant could be the 4 pacers and only 2 would be picked out of 4 ( as pandya will be the third pacer)

If Pandya can become a good no.7 batsman at test level then India will have the luxury of playing 4 fast bowlers in outside-subcontinent tests for the first time along with a spinner.

He will need one more FC season for that.

We may perhaps see this team in overseas tests after 12 months ...

Vijay

Rahul

Pujara

Kohli

Rahane

WK Batsman , maybe Naman Ojha

Pandya

Ashwin

Umesh

Aaron / Shami

Ishant

Asia  Cup League match vs UAE

Speed ranges ( for most deliveries excluding slower balls )

Bumrah  135 k to 143 k .... lots of 140 k + deliveries with good bounce

Pandya  130 k to 145 k ....bowled a wide range of speeds

Bhuvi    135 k to 140 k

Bumrah moved the ball both ways, bowled a couple of good bouncers and was reasonable accurate. Got good bounce as usual.  Bowled 2 good yorkers in the last over. Picked a wicket.

Pandya was basically going for bounce today and picked a wicket with one rising delivery as usual. Bowled a few quick deliveries.

Bhuvi was swinging the ball both ways.  As I thought, he has not lost swing. Bowled a good line and length today and bowled some good bouncers at 138 k to 140 k.

Thanks, Pandya 's pace has been good, bowling faster as he gets more confident, hope he can sustain this if he plays in the longer formats as well.

Irani Cup, 2016 , First day

Speed ranges of most deliveries excluding slower balls

Ankit Rajpoot    130 k  to  138.5 k    ( lots of deliveries between 135 k and 138 k )

Unadkat            125 k  to 135.5 k  ( lots of deliveries around 128 k )

Krishna Das      114 k  to  122 k

Binny                115 k   to 123 k

Rajpoot was the only pacer who got a little bit of conventional swing  ( outswing ).  From the second session he was reversing the ball consistently and both ways. Generally pitched the ball up and erred in line at times. Got good bounce from time to time and attempted some decent bouncers. He did not drop pace throughout the day ...even though he has a knee niggle in the 2nd session and had to stop bowling in that session. he looked the most dangerous of the ROI pacers on a flat track.

Unadkat looked much less lethal on a flat track.  He did get some bounce in session 1 but looked harmless in the last 2 session, even after the ball started reversing. Bowled in decent areas though.

Krishna Das was gently floating the ball at 115 k to 120 k.  Got no conventional swing but got a bit of reverse swing. He was bowling witha wobbly seam and did not look like a front-line pacer.

Binny was very accurate today.

Asia  Cup Final match  vs  Bagladesh

Speed ranges ( for most deliveries excluding slower balls )

Bumrah  136 k to 144 k .... lots of 140 k + deliveries with good bounce

Pandya  130 k to 142  k ....bowled a wide range of speeds

Nehra    135 k to 141 k

Bumrah was superb today both during PP and especially during the death.  He seamed the ball both ways on a flat pitch, got bounce with pace and was very accurate. Bowled to a good plan. His last over had multiple yorkers and a very good bouncer.  Picked up a wicket and gave away very few runs.

Pandya was average during his first 2 overs and got hit badly in the 13th over with 2 more overs left.  As he is a part time bowler bowling on a flat deck in a T20 , he should not be blamed and he should learn from this experience.

Nehra was expensive today. He bowled quite a few deliveries down the leg and was not that good in the slog overs.

Worried about Nehra's bowling. India has much flatter pitches and he will taken apart in WT20 if he can't bowl yorkers regularly.

Even though Pandya did bowl a few yorkers, he is still very raw and is not a death bowler. Pandya needs to develop a few variations like back of the hand slower ones. Hopefully Dhoni will not bowl him again in slog overs.

Bumrah is a gem. What a find for India! :hatsoff:

Speeds were less today but expected because of the 3 days off.

Interesting to see the speeds once the world cup starts, good job express and vishal

I hope the tracks are not too flat...hope they are not like the irani trophy track.

bcos if the tracks are too flat then Only genuine fast bowlers will have any say..guys like amir wahab , may be nehra bcos he can go higher then 140 when required succeeds..i believe all pacers and even spinners will be murdered.

hopefully the tracks are a bit greenish too.

Bumrah's the only pacer that instills some confidence in our side. Pandya can be utilized in the middle overs but can be disastrous at the death.
Nehra is OK when the pitch offers assistance to the pacers.  He bowls around 135k and is not consistent with his yorkers. Have got a feeling he'll be taken apart in the WC on flat tracks by players like Warner/Maxwell /Miller/AB/Butler. The onus is on Bumrah and Ashwin to carry this attack.

Reposting this video. Viru considers Aaron, Nehra, Shami, Yadav and Ishant the best bowlers in India and would have wanted atleast 4 among these players in the Indian team. Though he says Yadav and Aaron didn't perform well recently in the opportunities they got. (He is right about Yadav but wrong about Aaron. Aaron has not played in any LOI's or T20 after coming back from injury.) Viru goes on to add that he would have preferred a quick bowler in the squad instead of an accurate 130K bowler. Even though the quick bowler may go for 10 rpo but he will pick atleast 1 or 2 wickets.

easier said then done under pressure specially when we dont have the culture of pace bowling, the key for me is how you react both as a team as well as a bowler once the batman hits you, will you become defensive or will you become aggressive.

We will never have a pace bowling culture if every captain wants to play safe by playing trundlers. Need some captain who looks ahead and not just at short term results. Kohli looks like the right captain to develop this fast bowling culture in India.

Kohli will surely build a bowling culture as well as fast-bowling culture in India. If he gets charge of the ODI team too...we will see more new quicks, like Nathu and Avesh , coming through to the national team.....as well as Umesh and Aaron developing.

World T20 league match  vs  Bagladesh

Speed ranges ( for most deliveries excluding slower balls )

Bumrah  137 k to 145 k .... lots of 140 k + deliveries

Pandya  135 k to 142  k

Nehra    133 k to 140 k

Bumrah went for some runs in his first spell of two overs. Should not have bowled more than one over upfront on a spinning pitch. His spell of 2 overs in the end won us the tight match. Almost all his deliveries at the end were accurate yorkers at around 140 k.

Pandya should not have bowled 3 overs on this slow spinning track. His doing so resulted in such a close match. Otherwise, 146 is a good total on a slow spinning track batting first. He bowled with pace today and picked up 2 wickets in his last over.

Nehra used his experience and guile on a slow track today and bowled many slower balls.

Bumrah has started to hit top speeds in the mid-140s now.

145 k last match and 144 k in the Asia Cup Final.

Bowling 135 k to 145 k basically.

He is just 22 now.  Indians pacers typically hit their top speeds after age 24.

It is possible that he will become quicker ...and that can be big plus given his accuracy.

Yes he could become faster, I remember even Malinga becoming faster after his first year in international cricket. Another positive aspect seems to be his temperament, despite his fielding mishaps he was able to get his bowling right at crucial times. That is heartening to see.
