He was accurate...I think only in his earlier career (< 1 year) he was "inaccurate"...but he improved in ODIs quickly.

 

What he didnt had was stamina...and the reason is cause he used to run with long strides, which used to had an impact on his fitness. Post 2015 ODI WC injury, he transformed his runup and started running with smaller strides...and maintained his stamina.

From 2016-2021 he had pace, stamina and fitness to bowl long spells....he is losing some fitness due to growing age...and that might lead to some spraying here and there.

I remember reading an article, Shami used to goto his farm house where he had a cricket pitch and practice bowling to one wicket hours on end. They didn't say who used to retrieve the balls for him... I guess practice makes perfect , i think he can transition into an excellent fast bowling coach...

Yup, he can help young bowlers more than Bumrah.

Sole reason is he has grown through hard work, not saying Bumrah didnt do, but just like Tendulkar, Anderson or Akram...Bumrah was gifted and hence only he can do what he can..

 

Ishant is another one who can become a good coach, but not sure if they have the time and mentality for the same.

His action is so smooth and silky. I am sure he has done the hard yards. I think he is still single? I am sure he has enough to retire happily, it's just his determination and drive that still wants to tell Agarkar, i am better than these youngsters you are choosing... this experience should be used to give the finishing touches to youngsters from A and B team who wants to represent India. He should not be a coach, a strategist or a team manager, that would dilute the experience and help he can give to Indian fast bowlers. I think he can do that, after all Indian cricket gave him fame and money, granted with his hard work...like Bharat Arun...he can still contribute to India wins ..

He's the ideal candidate to be a fast bowling coach.

No Ishant was not the most clever bowler. Dhoni literally used to tell him where to bowl.

 

In terms of thinking bowler, Zaheer and Bhuvi were good. I know they were trundlers but so was Bharat Arun.

Zaheer is the fastest left armer ever ,no one hasn't yet broken his record of 173kph ,he chose greatest stage to deliver that ball that is CWC 2011

Look at the links below at Shami's ER for the first half of his career in tests and ODIs.

 

Same as his entire career.

 

He has never really sprayed the ball. He has always gone for runs in some ODI innings because he is not good at bowling variations and may get predictable in the end overs. It is not because he sprayed the ball.

There is no evidence that any of our bowlers are consciously cutting down on pace, anyway. 

 

 

Does not have to be intentional. If you are not used to bowling accurately at pace for 15 to 20 overs a day then it is possible that you may end up bowling slower if you try to improve accuracy in a match.

 

There is no substitute to bowling and bowling many many overs with pace and accuracy combined. 

 

Pace bowling is not for the lazy.

Ashok was not in rhythm today. Inexperience showed too. Bowled too many slower balls in his last over.

 

But we have to keep in mind that this is a very high scoring match with 215 scored.

 

That yorker was a sight to behold in his 3rd over. Very quick and accurate. Some length and back of a length balls were really quick too.

Watched Ashok bowling today. This was the first instance I have seen him bowling properly today. My thoughts are: He is 'quickish'. Sharpish. Not out and out fast. Perhaps around 141-143ish. He is pretty well built. However, I feel he sprays a lot of energy in his action. I think there is a scope to gather his action to make it linear. But he was bowling too short of a length. Not sure whether it was today, or that is his general tendency.
