speedracer Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Most punjabi guys and guys from south I have seen are big. Average height of new gen is easily 5'10. With punjabis I have seen its even higher. Taller than the sena boys infact and bigger. Somehow we pick malnourished trundlers from meerut. Vijy and Rightarmfast 1 1
Malcolm Merlyn Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Umran is easily the quickest indian bowler. That 155 is easily the fastest by an Indian. I see a lot of discussion about Srinath. Srinath at one point in time genuinely fast. But not express. Most likely in mid 140s. He bowled one ball at 149.9 kph in the 1999 WC. Some say he hit 157 kph against Zimbabwe in 1996-97. Officially no such record exists. But Srinath could have hit the early 150s. 157 kph? I doubt it.
Malcolm Merlyn Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 BCCI really needs to take care of Umran. He is 23. And is clocking 96 mph. At his peak he may well be a 100 mph bowler. Lone Wolf and SRT100 1 1

He was disappointing for me to watch, he is running slowly and just not putting any effort. Pace looks real pedestrian. On top of it I don't recall him hitting Yorkers consistently even in IPL and has only off cutters as variation. I won't be surprised if he gets mauled next match. Number Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) Pandya's spell with the new ball was really something. Easily the most enjoyable part of the game for me. Swinging ball both ways at 142-144 kmph. He is such a talented cricketer. I believe he gave up on being a genuine pace bowling option after injuries in 2019. If we had handled him carefully he would have played a lot of tests in SENA. Edited January 4, 2023 by Number express bowling and singhvivek141 2
Malcolm Merlyn Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 Btw if all of you noticed, Umrans short and hard length balls are between 145 to 147 kph. Its his full balls that hit 150. The express bowlers usually hit 150kph even on the hard length. So Umran has some distance to cover. singhvivek141 and Vijy 2

That Umran is the first Indian pacer who can bowl 150k+ balls in almost every match he plays and 145 k+ seems to be his base speed in white ball cricket. Undoubtedly, Umran is a genuine express pacer and I believe he can hit the 160 kph barrier as well if he can get a bowling coach who supports genuine pace. Vijy, Mosher, Lone Wolf and 1 other 4

I am all for it as most modern quicks looks faster to me to the naked eye. But it cannot be an one off discounting exercise for Srinath alone. No way do I believe Thompson bowled 160kmhr. IIRC the way fast bowlers speed was recorded back then is very different compared to today. express bowling 1

You are infectious and contagious with the way you promote your love of fast bowling. You alone have got everyone interested in genuine pace bowling. I guess I never believed India would really ever get to the stage of producing fast bowling that consistently hit 145+ I enjoy the way you promote them on here, it makes India far more exciting but also intimidating and daunting. Dont ever underestimate the genuine and real fear of being hurt by a genuine fast bowler, that alone distracts a batsmen compared to any other kind of bowler. You then combine speed, with guile skill and you then have a weapon of mass destruction while bowling. express bowling, Vijy and Mosher 3

He is slower than what he was bowling in IPls, no sharp bouncer on batters' noggin. He was hitting all Ind super stars on their lids v.consistently. Nothing of that kind in Intl. matches In last 5-6 years Ind has come-up so far in fast bowling that at one time they were considered as the best bowling attack and there were results to show for it. Not sure why they are going back to Trundlers when there are many high pace and 2-3 v.high pace bowlers. If this mind-set remains for 3/4 years Ind pace bowling will be on their old ways of having 125Kmph bowlers opening the bowling for Ind and other teams non-regular AR bowling faster then them I think he is entering into Nortje Ferguson category... He knows he can bowl fast but timing is necessary. In the final over we clearly saw him rip. Also he had no cushion whatsover. Spinners & Harshal were hell bent on ruining everything. Overall he showed immense accuracy for a newbie. Even Akhtar wasn't accurate. Lee maybe comes close. Mosher and Vijy 2

Thomson 147.x kph , Holding 141 kph, Imran 139 kph were the fastest. Robert's was around that 140 k mark too as his fastest. When batters had to face those speeds without helmets and wearing poor protective gears and without any practice against bowling machines set at 150 k, they seemed quicker. SRT100 and Mosher 1 1

There will be more to come through. India progressively has gotten better overtime since 2000.
