Walsh was a brute too when it came to bounce. And most WI pacers of the 1975 to 2000 era practiced generating steep bounce.

WI always preferred tall and high arm action bowlers till Tino and Edwards before that it was always that way.

Additionally underprepared/half prepared pitches also helped getting steep bounce from no-where.

more than batting, he can slog.

Thanks didnt know that, thats actually very crucial given the Poms approach to spinners and field placements.

He should be used a joker. go out and smash a few against the feckless spinners

It would end up being a potential "ace in the pack" to have someone of his caliber to go out and attack, if it works, it works, if it doesnt, it doesnt, no harm whatsoever.

Umesh I remember was like this, occasionally have some very useful innings.

India really lack this kind of batsman at 10,11 that can score rapidly.

Akash Deep is a bigger hitter than Umesh - has List A SR of 117 (compared to Umesh's 91) and 146 in T20s (compared to Umesh's 122).

Could even be used as a tactical play to bat him higher up ahead of Jaddu, Jurel, Ash, if the spinners are on and the pace bowlers are taking a break from a spell.

I really do hope we play him, as @express bowling has said often, he should be picked first based on his ability and quality to bowl, anything that comes after that is a bonus.

I would have been excited if someone like Mayank or Harshit debuted in red ball cricket.

harshit has a chance. dunno if mayank can start bowling right away with such low FC experience.

Last 3/4 years selection has been way off. They selected and carried player without knowing their roles and responsibility - Hooda (In T20)and Sky(In OdIs),Kishan are few example of it. Now Chahal is being carried in ODIs with no plan.

They are picking player to just to keep a check on SM  - Patidar, Tripathi, Dube.

Like pre Gangully era lot of low potential non-intnl quality players are being given a chance over  high potential players- KS (wkt-kpr), Mukesh, Unadkat, Thakur.

It seems like the main Job of this TM is to keep things quite between 2 superstars.

Ind is down to 2 fast bowlers left on the roster - Bhumrha and Siraj - One of which could get injured anytime and other is not that consistent. Fast bowling resources has depleted v.sharply in last 3/4 years.

3rd T20 dead rubber going on between SL & Afghanistan now. I saw a Pathirana over where every ball was 150+.

That’s impressive. SL have found a gem

& if Bumrah gets injured, then our coach and captain will weep in the Press for the lack of bowling options and give it as an excuse for the future failures in the big tournaments.

Dravid's comment on the absence of a tall fast bowler was foolish and clearly hint on how disconnected our ex-cricketers are from our domestic cricket.

We need someone like Michael Hussey in India who can follow cricket with same passion post retirement.

I would need @express bowling to verify this, but I am definite that has never happened in the history of Indian Cricket.

I know Boobi Kumar bowled 6 balls in the 120s kmhr as a fast bowler. :hysterical:

Dravid was NCA head, U19 head coach, Ind-A coach, who else could be more connected to Domestic circuit.

There is clear lack of planning, foresightedness and to some extent arrogance. By now Sen/ or some1 like him should have played atleast 1 season of intnl cricket.

Injury management, bench strength, fielding are all down-hill.

Ind has lost more players than they have added, random selection and then omissions - Not sure at this moment if TM is clueless or doing it on purpose.

They were carrying Saini in the team and when he was not in the team he was in Ind-A, what was the point of that now.

Avesh was dropped and then brought back without any good reason.

Unadkat was picked and then dropped for no apparent reason  - Players like him and Saini with years of domestic season either should make directly into playing 11 or they should not be carried with the team.

Thakur is neither here nor there.

They brought back Rahane in test on the back of IPL season then dropped him again.

You can add Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan to the list of low potential players playing for India.

What happened to Venky Iyer?

the list is big.

V. Iyer (KKr) should have been in the team. A LH batter an opener who could bat anywhere in top 6, can bowl couple of overs a decent outfielder.

HIs career is messed up by TM they asked him to play in mo and hone finishing skills in domestics , he plyed in  mo and in ipl but was never called back once Pandaya was available
