as you mentioned multiple times earlier, we need skiddy pacers for home tests ( reverse swing ).. for remaining we need bouncy pacers

Yeah, it has to be mix and match. One side fits all approach wont work.

For ex in SENA you need tall pacers. Harshit, Gurnoor, Prasidh will work with one medium height pacer (5.9-6).

In India, one tall pacer with 2 medium height pacers will work. Ashok can generate reverse with the old ball.

Gemini about MAYANK YADAV's red ball preparation at the CoE.

It says they are preparing him for the 2027-29 WTC Cycle

Preparation and Red-Ball Workload at the CoE
  • High-volume bowling: Bowled close to 15 to 20 overs daily at the facility to build robust physical conditioning.
  • Test cricket focus: Followed a strict regime supervised by coaches to transition smoothly into multi-day and Test match workloads.
  • Match simulation: Tuned his action and red-ball pace during intense high-performance spells before joining the national squad. [1]
  • Long-Term Target: The BCCI is explicitly preparing his body for red-ball cricket with the aim of having him fully ready for Test selection by the next World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. [1]
  • National Team Net Sessions: Rather than playing the Under-25 tournament, he was summoned as a net bowler to New Chandigarh ahead of India's one-off Test match against Afghanistan, where he bowled rapid spells under the close supervision of India's bowling coach, Morne Morkel. [1]

He should be playing ODIs in NZ I think.

Till then keep buliding up his workload through T20s.

Ashok will get there eventually once he learns hai strengths fully.

Mayank has now got better idea about what works for him thanks to these stints at NCA and CoE

What we saw yesterday was high quality test match and ODI type bowling by Mayank Yadav.

Hitting the deck hard at high pace, ball after ball, targeting the top of off stump. Perfect line and length and hitting the bat high.

There is a lot of potential due to his amazing accuracy at pace.

From the bowlers I remember watching, both McGrath and Bumrah have this unique ability to bowl rising deliveries and get edges and at the sametime knock batsmen out with fast indippers wrapping them on pads on the shin even on pitches with no swing. Shami too did that to a little extent. I want this new gen to learn that

If Mayank is able to bowl & sustain the load of bowling 16-20 overs per day...it will be of a great news for Indian Test match bowling.

Mayank need to ready himself for 4-5 over spells spread across 3 sessions.

It would be great if Gurnoor can be groomed as the No.8 batter. He definitely has the potential as his defence looks decent and he batted well in the 3rd ODI.

If it happens then we can play 4 proper quicks in SENA.

6 proper batters

7. Washington

8. Gurnoor

9. Bumrah / Siraj when Bumrah rests.

10. Mayank

11. Prasidh / Siraj

And Mayank can be used in short electrifying spells with Prasidh / Siraj and Washington as workhorse bowlers.  Bumrah and Gurnoor bowling flat out too.

Yes, both Gurnoor & Harshit have solid capability with bat. They need to improve on it.

We have Akashdeep as well who is decent for English/NZ conditions as he can swing the bowl and has decent pace as well.

If nothing works then Gurnoor/Harshit can be pushed to 9, Akashdeep at 8...while Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh, Mayank rotate themselves at 10-11. That will give us 4 proper fast bowling options

Key thing for me is to ensure Bumrah stays fit and bowl with his full pace as an attacking wicket taking option. We have been using Bumrah as an enforcer, workhorse, wkt taker, offensive, defensive everywhere.

What is the percentage of 145+ deliveries bowled by Ashok,Mayank yesterday?

% of 145 k+ ....

Mayank ....  10 / 19 = 53%  ( excluding 5 slower balls )

Ashok .... 8 / 21 = 38%  ( excluding  3 slower balls )

% of 144 k + is 63% and 62 % respectively.

Yes Mayank had a great game and it was good to see him bowl multiple deliveries at 148+.

However from a fitness perspective need to take it slowly and not get too ahead of oneself. LOIs is what I’ll focus on. Forget long form till his body can prove he can handle at least 6 months.

I’m sure Ashok will unleash hell in the next match. It’s only a matter of time. And I’m not worried of his fitness.

All of these express bowlers need to be kept ready in the squad and given chances at all times.

The motherchords in Indian cricket circuit suffer with play safe syndrome even in useless bilaterals where even if they play express pace out of charity, they hang by a super thin thread, moment they go for runs there career gets stalled by multiple years

I really hope they back Mayank Ashok Gurnoor Tyagi seriously, they can win you CWC and WTC

Mayank has to be handled carefully because he is been injured couple of times in just few years, the idea should be that he 1st concentrate on t20is, gains fitness and top speeds again

Once he is able to go through couple of t20i series without any issue at his top speeds then , get him play few Odis where he just need to bowl 7/8 overs , finishing 10 overs must not be req.

And in the background they should have a program not just for him but other faster bowlers too.... call them in the program give them test match situation, playing it like test match for 5 day 2 innings and make it 5 match series , monitor them if they need rest they can rest build them up.

Can not directly push him into test , plus this kind of program will be useful to other faster bowler too, they will get some proper game time which they do not get in domestic season

According to this analysis, they have test match plans for Mayank after atleast one year, maybe more.

I think they will graduate from T20s to ODIs first and see how things pan out.

But good to know that they are preparing him methodically for the future.

They have.  Tyagi and Mohsin are being trained now.

Gurnoor was trained earlier.

I think, since they named it CoE, the functioning has improved a lot and have become more methodical.  Pacers' biomechanics are better too.
