I believe he showed a lot of temperament,character and courage to stick around in second innings despite flaws in his technique as an opener. You could see he was not at all comfortable at the start of second innings but carried on to make a match out of it.

Pleasantly surprised at his rebirth. Honestly felt he did not have the technique or the temperament to perform consistently in international cricket. That may still be the case. He's had two reasonable series' in the last 6 months. So lets see how he can keep this up. As an aside, he should try to score a few runs while he's at the crease. His SR is low even by 90s standards. I understand that he has a role to play and his key responsibility is to stay while the other batters around him build partnerships, but that's no excuse for scoring at a SR of less than 1 runs for every 3 balls. He may be there at the crease, but the Indian team is getting any stronger for it. And to prove that point, if it had not been for Jadeja-Kumar partnership at the end, we'd have still likely lost that game, despite Vijay's innings. By batting so long, Vijay is certainly in the game as a batsmen, but he's not transforming it to our advantage as much as he should.

I think we should let him play at his own pace. There should be no pressure on him forcing the pace. Then he will start hoicking over mid wicket. We have tons of guys who can do that. He is a rare test opener we have found.

hmm I dont think so . He made it more likely by pilng up 95 runs & bulilding crucial partenerships in the process . if not for Vijay we would have set a target of 220 , which looks a less likely target for Indian win.

No. These days bowlers and bats don't have patience the more you frustrate the bowlers the more chance of them bowling bad lines I don't worry much about SR. I would want to do the same thing for all our foreign tours just old fashioned test cricket grind and grind and tire out bowlers.

This was not India trying to bat out the last day and draw a test. We were trying to set a competitive target here. For all his efforts, we could have easily been blown out for 270. Clearly, i am nitpicking here, but that's what good teams do - you look for ways to get better even when you win.

I dont think you can say he should have been more agressive at anypoint , thats for the batsmen to decide . we had over 200 overs to play we wheer never going to be short of overs to bowl out Eng. Also , You are also assuming that by trying to score quickly , first he would be sucessful doing that and secondly a quick knock would have helped Indias cause . I mean had Vijay scored run a ball 95 , there is every chance India would have ended up with a lower total .
