Dhoni has been crap with selection policy too. Going with only 4 bowlers and that too in a 5 match test series!! Make it even worse when your lone spinner is used as a defensive option. That means 3 seamers have to attack and take almost all the wickets, for the whole 5 tests . what a pathetic strategy! That is the reason why Ishant got injured, and i feared even Bhuvi will follow soon. Ideally it should have been ashwin+4 seamers or 2 spinners + 3 seamers. But we have Dhoni and his Gut feeling :facepalm:

Has no option with jadeja....you can't expect him to bowl an attacking line with his ability but I guess it is good for what it's worth....as I said jadeja is not good enough to make the side as a spinner alone and his batting is not good enough to he considered an allrounder....I rate binny a better batsman than him and that should say something.....he is doing well in his role within his ability but that is not the way to go.

Indian spinners are so used to bowling on the dust bowls at home and picking plenty of wickets on them that if they play on any pitch which doesnt turn square, they will be ineffective. The rank turners won't help Indian team grow at all. The seamers will remain spectators because spinners will be doing all the bowling and it won't help them improve their game. Jadeja has good control and stamina to bowl consistent line and length for many overs and can put pressure and bowl economically but he doesnt have the variety and skills that Ashwin has. Ashwin doesnt have the consistency that you need in foreign conditions because the conditions don't assist you. He bowls a few deliveries wide or on legs in every over and allows the batsmen to get off strike. Good spinner overseas = Jadeja's consistency + Ashwin's skills. I think Ojha is a better bet than these two bowlers but he can't bat and we seem to put a lot of importance on batting even for the tail nowadays.

Before this tour, Ashwin said he does not to bowl as a defensive or containing option as he has been used in Aus and then 1st test in SA which is not his natural bowling style. and I guess Dhoni must have heard that and he did not like Ashwin blabbering in the media because I was wondering why he has been written off so early and not given much bowling even in warmups to bowl and stake his claim again. It might look like a conspiracy theory, but I do not find any logical answer to this puzzle.

He gave away something like 4+ RPO against a county side and didnt pick any wickets.

There is no doubt he has often asked bowlers to bowl defensively and likes to run a tight ship

Uh, no. It's pretty simple. The Captain has control on the field. If a bowler can't/won't bowl economically at times then that bowler isn't likely to see the field. Especially one who is stupid enough to state that openly in the media.

I don't blame him for picking Jaddu over Ashwin. Jadeja has looked more promising overseas than Ashwin has. It hasn't quite worked out for him this series (so far) but he has been a wicket taker for us (and a crucial one at times).
