BSP chief Mayawati on Wednesday ruled out any alliance with Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and rejected Lalu Prasad's proposal for a joint front against BJP in the state. Slamming Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mayawati said, "SP chief only believes in politics of opportunism and is interested in power." Accusing SP of being hand in glove with BJP, Mayawati announced that Bahujan Samaj Party will not go for any pre-poll tie up with any party.
mayawati will never ally with mulayam,he wanted to kill her back in 95 lol

I dont blame them for coming together. If i was in their shoes from the point of the lok sabha it would be the sensible thing to do. The truth is though that while minority votes will be consolidated. You have to keep in mind that one of the reasons the JD(u) and the RJD came to be cause of the rivalry between the kumri and yadav communities. Each seat can field only one candidate. If you have a seat which is 20% yadav and 15% kumri and u field a yadav candidate. Clearly the kumari vote is not going to be 100% transferred. In such a senario the BJP alliance will field a kumri candidate and bank on significant split in the kumri votes in addition to their own vote bases. In that sense the BJP have a monopoly over upper caste and lowest caste votes with their tie up with Paswan. There is no base for the congress-rjd-jd(u) in these sectors. Both Jd(u) and RJD remain OBC parties + add ons. Its going to be a tough contest. No doubt in that. But its all going to be about to what degree those yadav or kumri votes consolidate for a candidate from the other community.
:hail: GB , if you try you can become a very good election strategist:two_thumbs_up:

^ i shall take that as a compliment. The truth is for all the running of a mandate against lalu for jungle raj Nitish kumar did his caste arithmetic. If Nitish would have allied with the BJP much earlier in the state than lalu would not get power. Simple as that. If Nitish would have stayed with the BJP they would have won all 40 lok sabha seats. If you look at the arithmetic Nitish + BJP still makes sense. Why do i get a feeling Nitish looked at Biju Patnaik and decided to establish himself and break the shackles of a partner?

Voters, partymen unhappy with Lalu-Nitish ties
Singh said that the tone and tenor of the alliance is anti-Narendra Modi, whereas the real issue in Bihar is Lalu or anti-Lalu. "There is a big section in Bihar which is still haunted by the dark days of 'Lalu raj'.
Good article, particular this point. It's very disappointing that the media has called the narrative as : the so called secular alliance when the real issue is convicted Lalu and his jungle raj.

which is why i said, a big section of the JD(u) might break away if the assembly bypolls dont go the Jd(u)s way especially in the 4 seats they are contesting. A lot of these guys dont want to play second fiddle to lalu. The way i see it Lalu stands to gain the most from this alliance than the Jd(u). Its Just nitish and his stubborn stance v Narendra Modi Would have been a key member in the alliance of the NDA with ministers in the cabinet and a firm grip in Bihar. Instead might be wiped out.

In reality, both RJD-JDU were already being a part of alliance for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. JDU alongside with RJD would have all supported Congress UPA post-elections, had the 2014 results been favorable to them. But, both parties were so overconfident and actually delusional that they refused to see the obvious BJP and Modi support completely. So the only difference is before it would have been post-poll, but now it is pre-poll. Both parties in LS were fighting on the anti-Modi stand and are still doing that in the assembly elections. Surely, after the huge win of Modi, the "secular" fooling game is not winning over the public.

agree on that point. They both would have supported the UPA. I think the BJP's rise crept up on everybody. Even if you look at the opinion polls. May 2013 the BJP was no where close to forming gov. Even till Feb they were like max predictions of bjp 200. Then it really spiked close to election time to 235-240 as per most surveys.

Opinion polls.:hysterical: That's one good issue you have brought up. Many so called secular parties and liberals were making a big noise about opinion polls and how they all paid and false during the elections campaigns. Guess what, they were right. These opinion polls grossly over estimated Congress and its allies seats. They thought it was BJP, turned out to be the other way around.

bjp paying price of being overconfident(in bihar)....
BJP paying price of not having any Modi rally. Its time they should realize the importance of Modi's speeches and rallies all across India during LokSabha elections.

Can't use Commander in Chief in all the battles..IMO it's not a major loss for BJP however it needs to come up with a better strategy... For the Alliance it'll important how long they can continue...

agree with asterix You cant become a one person party. The bJP need to name a CM candidate for the elections in a years time. The truth is if you look at the lok sabha voting % the allaince had 53% of the vote. BJP alliance had about 37%. Its time to name Sushil Modi as the CM candidate and finalise the candidates a good few months before the election in bihar in a years time. Its a clear victory for the JD(u)-RJD-Congress. No doubt about that. The BJP now are waiting for slip up from the ruling alliance. If a jungle raj comes to fruition then you might see a swing towards them. However the ball is firmly in the court of the alliance.

It has wider ramifications as well. I am sure the congress will attempt to tie up with other regional parties as well. In UP they will attempt to tie up with the BSP and RLD. That block in itself can easily get about 35% of the vote.
