Similarities Parties involved-An Allrounder vs one of the main Bowlers Symonds vs Bhajji Jadeja vs Anderson A big name as the eyewitness or party to the controversy SRT Dhoni Captain backing his player completely Kumble Dhoni I guess the similarity stops there, Differences Core Issue 2008 was more serious as it involved racism, Don't believe this is a race related controversy but more of a physical altercation. captain of the opposing team Punter was very proactive and aggressive in this controversy Cook has been more silent and not so vocal about it. Aftermath of the controversy India motivated itself to win the next test Don't know how much of it was a factor but looked like England stepped up a lot more and India was humbled. Anyways such controversies usually motivate one team to absolutely raise their game to the next level and effects the confidence of one team. I guess this issue was given a lot more attention than it deserved. Also the Monkeygate started the downfall of Symonds and to some extent Bhajji as well,even though he had a good run in 2010. This is not even as serious of an issue that Monkeygate was....I mean Symonds might have interpreted what Bhajji said wrongly but still racism in this day and age is a nono.....This was just a heated confrontation from what has come out so far,so don't know why this is being made a big deal about unless Anderson really got personal or race was the factor here. Credit were due to Dhoni for standing up to his team mate but I think he is letting this issue get out of hand for him by not focusing on the more important factors like winning or atleast saving the series. Also from what could be seen in the last 2 games neither Anderson nor Jadeja seem to be too affected by this......so why has this become such a big deal?

Dhoni is not known to overreact on petty things.OTOH,Anderson is known to be a tool,so won't be surprised if the matter was indeed serious. But yeah now they should let go.Without evidence nothing can be done even if Andu was guilty

Normal behavior for a serious incident would be to instantly retaliate. Can't buy totally that Jadeja stayed super calm and waited to make a complaint. There is something sketchy going on.

If an Indian cricketer did something similar to Anderson, he would have been banned for the rest of the series, whether there is video evidence or not. Some of the idiots here should stop kidding themselves. During Bhajji incident, it was just a single word and yet there was such a big controversy over it. Do you think they would have let someone continuously sledge, abuse a cricketer from the field to the pavilion again and again like Anderson did and let him get away with it ? Think again.

I just read the article posted on cricinfo....the negotiation was if India dropped charges,ecb would rest Anderson for one game and bcci wanted him out for the rest of the series :hmmm: Also bhajji incident was about racism-one word or multiple phrases,anything associated with that is usually taken super seriously. No one is calling cloudy an angel but the fact that sledging happens all the time and he clearly overstepped his boundaries,so when ecb was willing to negotiate a 1 game ban....that would have been a win right there rather than escalating it and making it a monstrous issue and eventually losing out due to lack of evidence,no matter what happened here is not bigger than allegations of racism. So don't know why dhoni and bcci are reacting this way to this....can't put a finger on it.

No one is asking jadeja or dhoni to do a mahatma gandhi and show the other cheek.....no one is even blaming jadeja for reacting the way he did to give it back to Anderson......making it a legal issue and pursuing it at this level is what people are really confused about. This incident happened at a place where there were no cameras,so why couldn't they just dish it back rather than making a big deal about it....they didn't even negotiate with ecb despite having no proof.....and that is how most formal processes work-on evidence so clearly everyone we're let off. The issue is that Anderson didnt get the punishment he deserved. He got away clean despite pushing a cricketer which is a big offense. If an Indian cricketer did it and Cook vouched for it that the Indian cricketer pushed someone, the Indian cricketer would have been banned without question. This is the double standards which exist in cricket.
