Not an upgrade over Praveen at all. Praveen was comfortably superior in terms of skill and moving the ball both ways. Fitness and attitude wise on the other hand....

Bhuvaneswar's strength is bowling consistently in the right areas, swinging the ball both ways which is enough in helpful conditions like England. He is also an intelligent bowler. Good to see him doing well in England. In India, he can bowl well with the new ball but the swing lasts only for 5 or 6 overs because its usually dry and hot. But he showed he can also reverse the older ball in Nottingham, so he could be a handful in India as well. He can also bowl wicket to wicket if needed because he is accurate and look for uneven bounce and also keep runs down and build pressure. In conditions like Australia or South Africa, he could still play provided we play 4 seamers among whom Umesh, Varun, Ishant could be others because pace and extracting bounce is more important there. But swing bowlers could also have a role to play in those conditions. He is more than a handy bat down the order. So he could be a very important player in the test side.

TBH Bhuvi performance in tests in Indian pitches is hugely under-rated. Yeah his average and his pace never tells the actual story. Against Aussies on two occassions (in hyderabad and in mohali), he took 3 wickets in his initial spell itself! I think this is the most difficult job for any fast bowler is to take wickets with the new ball on the flat subcontinental pattas, because ball comes nicely into the bat and it rarely swings. It is the most favourable condition for batting as there will be neither reverse swing nor spin to worry about.. Normally in this type of conditions fast bowlers wait for the ball to get old so that they can reverse it. So as a captain if you see the opposition is already 3 down, before spin and reverse swing coming into the picture, that is pure bonus. And that is what Bhuvi did in that Indo-Aus home series.

The ball to steve smith in that Mohali Test was the best ball I have seen from Bhuvi. It swung very late and was an absolute jaffa! VVS laxman desribed that ball as the ball of the series considering there was nothing in the pitch for fast bowler, especially with the new ball.

13.5 129.5 kph, that's a beauty. The off stump has been flattened. Smith plays for the inswinger, and it looks like an inswinger as it leaves the hand. Shaping in, it pitches in front of off, and then after pitching it holds its line to beat the outside edge and knocks the off pole over 55/3
