This is my view also... Raina was vilified for the failure against the same English side.. but not kohli.... Infact Raina contributed much more than current kohli ... He deserved to be dropped.

He was able to play out Steyn's banana swings in SA. Think it is more form than technique. He is playing at balls he should be leaving (he did in SA) because he is circumspect

But isn't that the real issue, why do we always have this undroppable culture? We had this with Sachin, he cost us several games during his final years of cricket. Ganguly was another one. And today, Dhoni is another one who has gotten this undroppable tag and thus no criticism or questions are allowed upon him. About Raina, he is a hardworking player who knows his limitations but yet is willing to address it. That's a good sign and every team could do with such a player. Why do we often see the brand name of the players to make decisions. Some players, we give them far too much time and opportunities while some are just dropped at a single failure.

Using a player's 3 years old ago performance to now certainly isn't right and actually stupid. Raina is a good option, so do not rule him out.

^^^ Isn't this but common sense. Someone who has scuceded before can succeed again. It is nothing to do with big names or being undroppable but to do with what they have achieved till them Kohli has just one single bad series. Who hasnt had bad series? Bradman? Sachin, Lara? Were they dropped? No because they always had the good in them. And the laughable comment that Sachin cost many games when we see now that at best we are still doing as bad as that. Dhoni too was given a long enough run of 3+ years now. Good players deserve some leeway. No one is a machine who can perform every series One thing. Kohli is being given a chance because unlike Raina he has SUCCEEDED in the past overseas and in tests, This is his first fail series

The main issue seems to be ... our young batters maynot be as serious about tests as the last generation. They are obviously talented. But have to focus on too many formats ... others being easier and more lucrative. I don't know whether the ongoing and future generation of batters will have the required motivation for tests.

Not for the first time, he had struggled in windies too, in 2011. The innings at perth was the one where he did not struggle.

Kohli has had "just one" bad series, yes, but this is a 5-match series, and so counts for more. This could easily have been two 2-test series, he would then have failed in two series! I think bowlers have worked him out. In SA they were bowling straight to him to trap him lbw. Anderson has worked out a weakness and exploiting it. I wouldn't drop him just yet, give him one more series and see if he can come back stronger.

Kohli can be given the chance, that is fine but till when? Like Sachin in his final cricketing year was a liability and I am surprised you have forgotten that. Of course, Kohli's situation is way different but let's not take it for granted and give Kohli the undroppable tag. And the idea that other players should not be given chance just because they failed some time back is absurd.

I'm not asking for Kohli to be dropped from the test side. That would be crazy.... But given the form he is in, he surely needs a break to recuperate. I would replace him with Naman Ojha in the next test. He has been in good form recently and surely can't do worse than Kohli.

I meant in sequence... This was like how Wasim Jaffer got out to Brett Lee repeatedly. Almost the same way he gets out to Anderson here.

He is a class player but just need to show some patience. He loves to drive the ball especially, especially that cover drive. He needs to avoid that. Just he need to look at sachin and how he scored that 241 at sydney with out playing a single drive through the off side. Kohli need to show that type of temparement if he indeed the successor of the great man. Just having talent is not enough!

For how long? It has only been 4 tests for feck's sake. And is the double standards in defensing Dhoni for 3 long years and crucifying Kohli based on not even one complete series, with one match left, only obvious to me? Yes, Sachin was a liability in his last year, but he had an outstanding 2010, had an ok next couple of years. So unless you are Nostradamus's uncle, how on earth could you have predicted he would do bad last year? Players of his class do have bad couple of series and then bounce back. This is nothing to do wot being droppable or undroppable but a gamble people take about form, class and youth. Sometimes it works, sometimes doesn't
