Straight Drive Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Probably played his last innings.His innings in NZL , during which i guess he batted for one and half days to draw the test was one of the best test innings by an Indian cricketer overseas imo. Overall a good enough opener who served Indian cricket well by playing 56 tests in about 10 years and averaging 43.47 which for an opener is decent. I would be glad if the likes of Murali, Ajinkya, Virat, Shikhar and Chet average over 43 after playing as many tests. There is a time for everything and imo it is time to drop him. Well played.

Plus he is horrible against offspin too (India play 60-70% of their games in SC). Avg 17 against offspin I think.

Its not as if our FC is bubbling with test quality talent which is evident from the decision to bring back Gambhir who was not even scoring much in FC. Our whole first class system has to be fixed if we need better quality players in the future and backup players. There's no way Jadeja, Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Manish Pandey etc. should have an average of 55. They are not even half as good.

None of the stats should be taken seriously. Use Ranji records to separate the wheat from the chaff and have another tournament where the best players play and select the best from them and send them to A tours and if they do well, select them for the national side.

Saw in TV. Yes definitely better than Gambhir. Needs a bit of luck but when he gets that, he scores fast.

If Dhawan isn't scoring, he should be dropped for some other opener doing well in FC.
