Dhoni india's Mr. Reliable in England

We must aknowledge dhoni's performance in this series. Four fifties in this series. Was india's most consistent performer. This is very good considering he wasn't even a specialist batsman. His keeping too is right up there. Batting at no.6 was a new challenge for him but he succeeded in it. Yeah he may not have been fluent but he got the results. He was india's lone ranger in the last 2 tests. I believe he could have scored atleast one century if not for the run out in 1st test or if he had better support from the others. When people like pujara & kohli go missing for entire series there's very little you can do as far as results are concerned Yeah you may not agree with his captaincy always but nobody can deny his contribution as a player & a senior in keeping the team united on a tough tour. For that I salute you dhoni :isalute:

Acknowledged..let Dhoni play as a batsman-wicketkeeper' date=' not as a captain[/quote'] That won't help the new captain Dhoni is way too popular not to undermine the next captain. Its best he retires from test cricket now. Otherwise every time we lose a seties there will be clamour for dhoni to return to helm in the media . Never good for a young team

couldnt agree more, i would rather have him continue as captain than have virat or pujara or ashwin lead Dhoni

Don't think his keeping was up to the mark. An English woman wicketkeeper had to take a dig at his unwillingness to go for catches. Also missed stumping . Didn't collect cleanly lot of time. A problem he had in the last tour as well.considering this is his third tour it was night time he showed up.

So one good series with the bat makes him Mr. Reliable but bad series' as a Captain against Eng, Aus (both 4-0), against Eng (2-1), against NZ and now against Eng, doesn't make him a bad captain.

Even missed an important very simple runout last game.

After virat's zombie like performance this series he will NEVER be my first choice test captain. The way he went missing was scary to say the least. If you go missing like this in an overseas tour when leading a young team there is very little what can't go wrong on & off the field

Dhoni has a medical condition where he cannot dive to the right' date=' but can dive to the left.[/quote'] diving is always an instant reaction. If one start taking time to think whether to dive or not, he will never dive.

Rarely seen Dhoni come high in a test match when India really needed him to (esp when India play away). When the team has absolutely no chances of winning and nothing is at stake, Dhoni has the habit of making some cheap runs and boosting his averages.

Never knew that a bating average of 34 over 5 test matches and 10 innings can lauded so much. That too man majority of runs came in dead situations. One clue is, when Dhoni was such a reliable bat why didn't he come up the order like he did in WC final, where he could have more impact. What was point in hitting a 50 when we are already 60/5? No use. Sachin on last tour averaged almost same as Dhoni did now and it was considered abject failure as test batsman. Now for the same performance, Dhoni is being lauded as legend test batsman. The only test that India won, Dhoni scored 1 and 19. He reminded me of Robin Singh in this series who would help himself to many 50's ODI's in lost situation without threatening to make any impact on the proceedings.

If an Indian keeper can average 34 in England with the bat, I'm more than happy with his batting. Not stellar, but solid. At home I might want him to make more runs, but I'll take his 34 runs a game in England. Problem for me is, he needs to to do way better as a keeper. And as a captain? Well, I cannot remember an Indian captain in any series with more bizarre tactics than Dhoni's in this series.
