Dhoni india's Mr. Reliable in England

Never knew that a bating average of 34 over 5 test matches and 10 innings can lauded so much. That too man majority of runs came in dead situations. One clue is, when Dhoni was such a reliable bat why didn't he come up the order like he did in WC final, where he could have more impact. What was point in hitting a 50 when we are already 60/5? No use. Sachin on last tour averaged almost same as Dhoni did now and it was considered abject failure as test batsman. Now for the same performance, Dhoni is being lauded as legend test batsman. The only test that India won, Dhoni scored 1 and 19. He reminded me of Robin Singh in this series who would help himself to many 50's ODI's in lost situation without threatening to make any impact on the proceedings.
He is not a specialist batsman like sachin was. For a wk/bat to average that high is very good. He could have got atleast one hundred if he had some support. What meaningless runs. You mean he should have just becoz the situation was dire he should have thrown his wicket away :haha: We wouldnt have reached 100 runs even once in the last two tests. :cantstop:

If an Indian keeper can average 34 in England with the bat, I'm more than happy with his batting. Not stellar, but solid. At home I might want him to make more runs, but I'll take his 34 runs a game in England. Problem for me is, he needs to to do way better as a keeper. And as a captain? Well, I cannot remember an Indian captain in any series with more bizarre tactics than Dhoni's in this series.
this is just a one off series.his avg in england has always been decent close 35 iirc but in places like saf(8 matches, avg 30 iirc),aus(7 matches avg 22),wi(7 matches avg 20) he has struggled a lot with the bat and also keeping and these are big sample size

Averages by themselves don't mean a lot. Just one hundred in a dead match plus a few runs here and there in a five test series could take the average to 30. Dhoni did not contribute much in the match India won. When India slips to 50/5 he gets a 50. This may slightly reduce the margin of defeats, but would never change the course of a match. If he had averaged 60, then it is a different story because it could have saved or won some games.

Rarely seen Dhoni come high in a test match when India really needed him to (esp when India play away). When the team has absolutely no chances of winning and nothing is at stake' date=' Dhoni has the habit of making some cheap runs and boosting his averages.[/quote'] In NZ he had a chance to hog the strike and take India to win. He gave up way soon.

Dhoni doesn't show up overseas when we need a gritty innings but in the last 2 Tests, he fought well. Came at 8-4 and scored a 70 odd. He could have got a century if not for that Ashwin shot off Stuart Broad that caused a collapse and forced Dhoni to slog. Then his 82 knock in the next Test was pretty good too. I must give him credit for that. But for God's sake, he needs to go as a captain.

Yeah..the one match we won' date=' he didn't score there.[/quote'] crucial 80 odd on 1st day of the 1st test to save the game .. if he had not scored , we might have lost that game and then we ll be taking abt 5-0

without dhoni we might have lost the series by 5-0 .. scored some USEFUL runs :proud:
You becoming outright troll now. The only match we won was where Dhoni didn't score any.

Agree. Also that partnership of 70-80 with Vijay in the second innings at Lords. He might have made only 20 but showed persistence in grinding it out for 80 odd balls.

Dood give up. Not even sachin scored in all the matches we won. Nor did we win all the matches sachin scored in. Learn to give credit where due :angelic:

when 20 is talked about as the contribution from a batsmen, you can understand what is people believe of that batsman..

Do you really want us to discuss his wicket keeping?:giggle:
Forget abut any discussion. This guy should simply be prosecuted for murder of Indian cricket along with Srini. People like Shastri for abetment of this crime.

a batting average of 34 when the next 3 above you dont average 20, is commendable. The comparison between Dhoni and Sachin is unfair- Sachin's failure in 2011 is noted because he is expected to dominate bowling and put up runs all the time. Similar numbers from Dhoni is being commended because we expected Dhoni to fail and he provided runs- 4 fifties in 10 innings overseas is a commendable effort for a lower middle order batsman- #6s cannot often score centuries without support and Dhoni came close a few times. IMO, Dhoni has shown us that he is worth persisting with at #6, especially at home. And I've been saying this for over a year now- Dhoni is the default captain choice. Who else is eligible ? I told you all that Kohli was one poor series away from being in hot water, coz he is not that established and is still new in Tests. Pujara i didnt expect to fail so horribly but he did and he needs to work on his game too. MV did well but both him and Rahane are not established yet to carry the burden of captaincy...leaving us with....Dhoni. The only alternative to Dhoni i can think of, is Ashwin but i dont think Ashwin has much experience in captaincy.
