Ranchi: In a shocking incident, national shooter Tara Sahdev has alleged that her husband assaulted her several times after she refused to convert. Sahdev alleged that her husband Rakibul Hasab kept her in forced captivity for one month during which she was starved and tortured, brutally assaulted and allegedly bitten by dogs. "He punished me because I didn't covert. There was no contact with anyone, I wasn't allowed to meet anyone. He didn't even let me eat," said the athlete. Her ordeal ended when she approached the State's National Commission for Women. She has also accused her husband of marrying her by concealing his true identity. Conversions, not a new issue. Under UPA government, it was very much hidden, censured just to please certain few (vote-bank politics). But under new government, people are certainly more braver and willing to call a spade a spade.

either she married him not knowing that he is a muslim or he did convert after the marriage.. its very difficult to believe that anyone can fool a women by faking his religion for marriage.. probably her parents might hhave done atleast some basic background checks

Other parties may cry as much as they want but the fact is that BJP is completely right in raising this issue - which it has been doing in UP and it has created quite a political storm there.

Yes, the way she has been tortured is atrocious and the guy should be punished for that. But it does look like a little made up. Arranged marriages don't happen without detailed background inquiries. It might be that guy converted or was ready to convert before marriage but after marriage started forcing her.

Agree. Don't expect intellectual class to understand ground reality before passing their expert comments. Although I think, rather than organizing it on a political level, RSS-BJP should go for families/household level meetings.

Inspector Mohammed Farooq, who raided Hasan's houses, said, the seized six cars and motorbike are registered in Ranchi registration in the name of Raqibul Hasan Khan. Special team has been constituted to arrest Hasan.

So hes fled. What a sick person. Deserves the death penalty for beating this lady and deceiving this family. RSS and BJP have every reason to be upset.
