"too powerful for the long-term good of the game" - What game? Test cricket? If that's the case, very good. "perfect opportunity for betting and therefore fixing" and believes "players are slaves to it". - How does it offer a perfect opportunity? Again, the idiot does not substantiate. Slaves? LMAO. "I'm worried about the IPL - in fact, I feel it shouldn't be there at all," the 58-year-old said. "It is changing the priorities of world cricket." - Yep, English cricket is no longer the focal point in World cricket. Take it on the chin. The annual tournament has been dogged by allegations of spot-fixing and illegal betting, and in April of this year India's Supreme Court asked the country's cricket board to investigate the claims. - Poor form from BBC, every competition has been dogged by match fixing. Westfield, Kaneria and all didn't fix in the IPL. Botham added: "How on earth did the IPL own the best players in the world for two months a year and not pay a penny to the boards who brought these players into the game? - Really? So how much did ECB pay when they poached Morgan from Ireland? Or KP from SA? Or Trott from SA? Heck, how much money does the counties pay to the boards of overseas players? And it is absolute horseshit that IPL doesn't pay the home boards, it does. I think a tenth of the salaries paid to the overseas players goes to their home boards. What a retard? Poorly researched, poorly substantiated. "Corruption is enough of a problem in itself, but the IPL compounds that problem given it provides the perfect opportunity for betting and therefore fixing." - How? How IPL "compounds" the problem other than any other tournament? What an idiot! "We have seen a few players exposed, but does throwing the odd second XI player into jail solve it? - Tell Westfield that. He's in jail while Kaneria is still in the open. "To kill the serpent, you must cut off its head. The ICC Anti-Corruption Unit must pursue the root of the problem and if necessary expose the big names." - Fantastic language used for a reasonably good audience. Stay classy. What AN IDIOT

I am not against cricketer making millions if they are worth it. But too many mediocre talents are getting big cash these days. Just like I despise Kim Kardashian being a celebrity with zero talent, while I have no problem with accomplished actors and musicians making loads of money. BTW, Viv Richards hit effortless sixes before ODI came along. Watch some cricket before spewing shyt.
That's exactly what is happening. Market forces determining pay packets according to "perceived" and "demonstrated" abilities. Much better than a situation where Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma gets paid the same match fee, isn't it?

That was Viv and I have seen him hit sixes at feroze shah kotla. Now Indians are hitting those sixes and I am happy. As far as Kim is concerned quit watching that ****. Let the free market decides which cricketers make money. Dont be so jealous but feel happy from them There was a time when Bedi mentioned Indian cricket players had no money for breakfast in away tour and all they would eat is the cookies served in the morning. Wadekar wore torn shoes for cricket and Sobers wanted to give it to him for free. I am happy for them. Botham can take a hike.
Agreed.. But instead of ipl every year they should have it every 18mths or alternate year. This will allow our players to play some county cricket as well.

thats cause Mr Pollock now wants a job in the IPL.... As i said before in that instance, these guys reveal their true colours when they dont need you. Botham would be the first one in line for the IPL if he was not paid well by sky.

Kim Kardashian has unmatchable derriere which people love to follow as long as taliban ideologu is contained within the burrows of Kandhar.

botham talking like a sick old cnut!! ipl has got corruption issues but its not as evil as he suggests and people all around the world love this league, this is a case of sour grapes because of the power shift(ecb and bcci) in the last 5 years

Botham has lost it. Look there is nothing wrong with a t20 tourney, - its how it is played, set up and arranged If you work to fight corruption (efforts have been made now), that reduces incidents happening. I believe its too long, too many games. If it was shorter, then it wouldn't clash with the cricket calendar as much. Prepare better pitches and then complaints about ftbs can go away. Dubai had some good pitches. Basically, the tourney is not bad but steps need to be taken to make it more friendly with international cricket and cricketers. Botham is just jealous. England's t20 and odi tourney's are horrible.

Let the boards first pay a share of the ticket sales and total revenue to the players in addition to the salaries. Let the superstars get their due because a lot more people watch the game because they are playing. Then I agree, IPL can pay the boards for the player attendance.

How much ECB paid for poaching KP, Rankin, Morgan, Trott, Prior, Ballance, Stoke? List is very long. No other board is involved in such a dirty tactics. Its hurting global growth of cricket. ICC should take a note and act immediately

One genuine question - Does the county team pay the respective boards of overseas players? Another question - Does the ECB pay the various countries it has poached players from?
I think cricket boards should pay the IPL when they selected a player after good showing in the IPL!
Worst Spirit of Cricket speech ever. Not even gonna bother dissecting' date=' highly illogical and just plain wrong[/quote']
