The crux of this thread is that he cannot be relied on as a batsman. Is suspect against good pace bowling. The big question India need to ask themselves is does Ash need to be promoted to 7 over Jadeja. or Do we treat Jadeja as a bowler who can bat a bit.

Nzl has very good pace attack and he did very well against them didn't he? The crux of the argument us basically a knee jerk reaction to a single struggling knock

Under pressure situations definitely yes. And he proved that massively in only chance he got in CT As for his ability with bat he is more that decent for no.7 .Ideally won't prefer him for Aus but considering other options would definitely trust him more any other option with both bat and ball

Those pitches were roads. Our batters sucked in general against the new ball. Nobody is asking for him to be dropped (atleast not me) as he is a good bowler and fielder for India. There IMO is certainly no harm in promoting Ash to 7. Its worked in the tests.

This is not a single struggling knock. He has come many times where he needed to score quick runs while batting first or second but he only delievered a few times. I simply dont trust him when we have to get lets say 35 from 22 with 4 wickets left. Heck I dont trust his bowling that much either. Just because others are not performing doesnt mean jadeja gets a clean slate.
