bowl_out Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 We need 6 proper batsman in the team.If Ashwin has to play he has to pick wickets if he fails he'll be replaced simple.BK was our best bowler in England & can't be dropped based on assumptions that he'll not deliver in Aussie conditions.None has seen him bowl there,well if he fails Umesh will surely replace him.A team can't be picked based on guesswork & assumptions. I am not asking for BK to be dropped. I am simply saying that the seven batsman theory isn't working overseas. We need 5 bowlers to win a test match overseas, and that Ashwin should be the fifth bowler, filling in as the sixth batsman. And we should play four seamers - Bhuvi, Shami, Ishant, Varun

Also seeing how Australia struggled against Yasir Shah you guys should consider bringing a leggie. Ashwin might score some runs but he'll give up even more without taking wickets. Shami Ishant Yadav Leg Spinner They smashed Tahir last time he toured. You don't take a leggie for the sake of it cause that results in economy rate greater than 6. India need to play 3 seamers and 1 spinner to bowl plenty of overs and keep it tight getting maybe 1 or 2 wickets. So Jaddu and Ashwin can do that role, can't expect wicket taking role from spinner in Aus unless you have a world class legspinner which India don't. You can wish for a wicket taking role from Ashwin or Jaddu in Aus but that reamains wishful thinking if you check history of spinners there. 4 seamers would be an option but then you have to consider that Indian bowlers have poor stamina and may be bowling 90+ overs at times to get Aus all out. The combination vs England is another option with Rohit in reserves unfortunately.

Can play Ashwin to bat at 7 as an option if want a spinner, though he wont be better than part timers like Vijay, Dhawan, and Rohit who can share some overs. Though I have more confidence in Ashwin's batting in test overseas than Rohit, so, that spot is contentious.

Kohli and Pujara have proved themselves in numerous tours, for instance take the SA and NZ tour.. I agree that Robin deserves more chances for India but comparing him with Pujara and Kohli is nonsense

skindia Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Robin hasn't played international test yet so u can't say he is better or poor compared to them...Coming to point I said even gr8 players like kohli has bad pitch why not robin can have 1 bad A tour...?shouldn't be discounted based on 1 bad tour otherwise nohit sharma wouldnt have played so many matches and raina,yuvi,dhawan also played many tests without performance.why targetting only 1 player's 1 bad series that too of player in form.
