Srinath in 1999 World cup recorded in excess of 90 mph ~ 145 KMPH on the display put on boundary line. This was after his shoulder injury in 1997 so he certainly was the first genuine pace bowler in modern times (post mhd nissar & Amar singh era). I remember folks sarcastically acknowledging him as fastest vegetarian bowler in world but I believe he was certainly top 3 bowlers in terms of pace during 1995 to 1997 period.

Interesting to see so many quick bowlers coming in very recent past ...what's changed ? Are we just picking quicker bowlers early or is there some coaching difference ?

The current Indian pacers ( Aaron, Umesh, Shami, Ishant ) look visually quicker too. ( apart from Srinath, who looked the quickest ).

I have watched srinath from 1996.of all Indian fast bowlers I have watched aaron is the quickest.

Srinath or even Ishant bowling at 145 K will be quicker and more threatening than say Aaron or Umesh bowling at close to 150 because of their height factor. Recently in some Pak match that Bhatti guy was clocking 140+ and Md.Irfan was bowling at 135 but still Irfan looked way way quicker

Umesh can get lot of movement and bounce because of his good action so I don't agree with this Ishant used to look fairly quick before lost it in middle and seems to be improving now

How tall are JS, IS, UY and VA? And btw - just purely between under-achievers RP Singh (before he became motu) and VRV Singh (no swing, gun-barrel straight yes), who had higher speeds? At their best, speed-wise, RP Singh and VRV Singh, are they comparable to Mohd. Shami (not skill comparison, just pace)...???

Its not just about being found by IPL. Training professionalism and exposure with great players. Ishant has been consistently playing steyn and coached by Waqar for 2 months every year. Ni Indian player had this kind of exposure in the past. Umesh or Aaron when dropped from national team still had the backing of million dollar IPL contracts .And can still make the come back by performing in front of millions of viewers . Which past fast bowlers had this luxury? Not caring about livelihood and just bowl fast? A Balaji or Nehra when dropped had to grind out in ranji trophy for years for a living let alone making a come back .

Ok let me rephrase....A tall bowlercan be 5 clicks slower than an average height bowler,by that I don't mean at Tundler speeds but at a decent pace. Steyn skills> Morkel but Morkel is by far the most dangerous bowler in the S.A side...Steyn might get you for a duck every time but Morkel in rythm will hurt you-Still surprised S.A haven't used him like their very own M.J. Anderson Skills>Broad but Broad is more threatening Hope that clairifies

Not True...every team looks for a world class quick bowler Yes T20 needs a lot of bits and pieces cricketers but fast bowlers are hot commodity in T20....Even some unknown bowlers Nannes,Morris etc were bought at good prices because they were rumored to be express

Those guys were not unknown and performed in their competitions International cricket is never un known and ipl has not benefited any Indian quick bowlers the guys who were quick before are quick now ...no one increased pace for ipl so this theory is flawed Also I gave u example of who they targeted the bowlers who succeeded and who get to play and let me give you hint it's not quickest bowlers not even guys like Cummings get consistent run
