For 9 hrs in Bangkok. What can I do ? It is from afternoon to night. Any tips/tricks might be appreciated. Regarding food - I am veggie foodie, and depending on what kind of Hindu Vegeterian meal they served me on flight, I might be craving for spicy stuff. Suggestions are most welcome. Also how to get around in the city.

- If you are flying out from Suvarnabhumi airport, the touristy areas of the old city (temples/pagodas etc) are quite far away. Takes an hour to get there and an hour to get back, assuming the traffic is good. - The weather is hot, humid and muggy. Think Chennai - style mugginess. Not sure if you want to spend hours and hours checking out derelict temples in that weather. - Stay the **** away from the backpacker district of Khao San, full of shady peddlers and touts. The type that won't stop harassing you/following you until you brought something. - If feeling adventurous, you can try bugs, cockroaches and other insects. They are very high in protein. However, given the unhygienic conditions in which they are cooked, you might end up with a severe dose of runs the next day. - The exchange rate you get for Thai Bhatt at the airport is utter nonsense. You will get ripped off big time. I spent my 21st birthday in Bangkok. If I could go back in time, I would give it a miss and chose some place else.

It seems like the unanimous choice of ICFers is as soon as you get down in Bangkok - pull your fly down and go - Bing Bang Hump Dump ! Well I have no such intentions ! Given that is out of the way -- what is the next best thing? I have heard we can take the train to city center (or near abouts) and avoid traffic. I was going to try roof-top bars for which Bangkok is quite famous , but then again, I will probably be trashed drinking on flight from ICN to BKK -- so why waste more money drinking, which I will not remember of anything. I will probably walk the city center, and head out to some good Indian joints to have a dosa or so. Or might even try some nice authentic Thai food ! They say it would be blasphemous if you go to Thailand and not have Thai Food ! So might as well stick to the rituals. If you were to pick one place in Bangkok, ala the Times Square or Gateway of India, what would that be for Bangkok?

Get some food, awesome food everywhere. As you've gathered it would be blasphemous not to eat Thai food, especially coz it is ****ing amazing. Getting to the main town can be hasslesome, but you have 9 hours. I'd suggest Khao San Road especially if you're there in the evening or night. There are many rooftop bars not too far from the Airport, 1 or 2 may be worth checking out. There are massage palours everywhere, that is something definitely worth it, though they may try to offer additional services ;) The shopping centres are over-rated IMO don't bother wasting time there unless you want to specifically buy something, but remember each mall specialises/caters to specific products.

Thanks -- no way I am shopping in Bangkok
