 The only hope is that it has not been officially announced, yet...

Has Ishant Sharma been appointed India's new Test vice-captain? If Bhuvneshwar Kumar is to be believed, Sharma is set to take the deputy's job to Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli was India's vice-captain when MS Dhoni was the captain in Test cricket. With Dhoni suddenly retiring from Tests, Kohli has been appointed captain. However, there was no announcement from BCCI of a vice-captain to Kohli. But late on Wednesday night, Bhuvneshwar Kumar's official Facebook account congratulated Ishant Sharma 'for getting promoted as the vice-captain of Indian Test cricket team' Ishant Sharma is a veteran of 61 Tests, making him the most experienced player in the Indian Test side now that Dhoni has quit. However, Sharma has never become a top class bowler in his seven years with the Indian team, conceding 37 runs per wicket over a span of 61 Tests. Those are not the figures of a bowling spearhead. Sharma, often described as 'unlucky', could scarcely lay claim to becoming the team's vice-captain on merit. It would seem that for his experience alone, he has been handed the No 2 job in the Indian side. The decision however is unlikely to go down with most Indian cricket fans who regard Ishant as a failure. Bhuvneshwar Kumar's post on Facebook was met with much bemoaning from fans, with insults being thrown around liberally and hyperbole being used at will to criticise Ishant Sharma. http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/comment-ishant-sharma-india-s-new-vice-captain-under-virat-kohli-s-leadership-2048706

Rahane, Ashwin Vice-Captains in queue The sudden decision of Mahendra Singh Dhoni to retire from Test cricket has also given rise to a question as to who will be Virat Kohli’s deputy with the names of Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin emerging as possible candidates. “It will be interesting to see what is the choice of selection committee led by Sandeep Patil and the feedback that they get from Team Director Ravi Shastri. Ravi’s point of view will be key in this regard. As of now, the two players who are in with a chance are Rahane and Ashwin,” a BCCI source in the know of things told PTI today. According to the sources Rahane, who is now a permanent fixture across all three formats looks to be a front-runner but Ashwin by virtue of his seniority cannot be ruled out altogether. “What works for Rahane is his calm demeanour which could possibly complement Kohli’s aggressive intent. They could prove to be ideal foil for each other. Also Rahane has the performance to merit that place (1026 runs in 13 Tests with 3 centuries),” the official said. While 28-year-old Ashwin is senior in terms of number of Test matches (23 Tests, 114 wickets, 956 runs), there have been times when he has not found a place in the playing XI in Test matches in overseas conditions. http://www.newsnation.in/article/65525-rahane-ashwin-vice-captains-queue.html
