Forever Indian Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 ABD has developed into a complete batsman only recently in last 3 years or so. IMO that largely is also due to the rules changes and flatter pitches. I don't remember any of his innings in tough conditions. Before that he was quite inconsistent and had temperament issues. He is still little inconsistent in ODIs but his temperament has increased now. I would like to say he is a good allround player but not a ATG batsman for me.

Sachin played as a opener and played predominantly in the 90's. yes he did start in the middle order but played most of his ODI games as an opener. Different challenges and different era. ABD is a brilliant batsman but again should not be compared to Sachin. Sachin is still a generation older to ABD and challenges they faced was completely different. Fair comparison for ABD would be his Contemporaries like MS Dhoni who perform similar role to ABD.

Not to forget the burden of being the one to bat through the innings and still he maintained a better sr than those who batted around him!

Sachin has faced much better bowlers at lively pitches in his career. And he was thoroughly carrying Indian batting on his shoulders for many years until the emergence of Ganguly , Dravid ,cant say the same about AB.

I don't think you could play so many of these unorthodox shots during Sachin's days without getting dismissed cheaply. However if ABD can keep playing the way he has played for the last 4-5 years he would be a serious competitor to Sachin.
