Cricket_Hacker Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Wahab's quickest was 94 mph plus that day which is close to 152K. His average was 90 mph' date=' 145K. It is not just that one day. He had also bowled well against SA.[/quote'] Wahab was unusually quick vs AUS.His usual average speed is under 140.
MK55 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Wahab was unusually quick vs AUS.His usual average speed is under 140. He has an action that enables him to bowl quick when he wants to. Saw him bowl 148+ in the WC warm ups and in our match on a few occasions. But yaa average pace was definitely higher against AUS probably because he was spurred after that Starc incident
rkt.india Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Wahab was unusually quick vs AUS.His usual average speed is under 140. Yes. He was charged due to that Watson-Starc sledging.
Shogun Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Unfortunately the Indian bowler who can bowl bouncers best is toiling away in a domestic match at the Chinnaswamy _lZIc8mBTe4
express bowling Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Do you guys really think a 147kph short ball is dramatically tougher than a 143k short ball? At anything above 140k on a pitch where the ball is not stopping (ie Aussie pitches) placement and trajectory of the short ball take far greater precedence over the speed. Also important is how well it is disguised and whether the pressure is being maintained at the other end as well. The Indian bowlers have done a very good job in all these aspects which is why they've been so successful getting wickets on short of length deliveries and have snagged 70 wickets in 7 matches. Agree completely. 140 to 145 k/ 147 k ( speed of Shami / Yadav this WC ) is good enough for bowling good bouncers provided the bowler can direct it at the right area. Ability to get the ball above the middle of the chest and directing it at the head or just to the off of it, is the most important factor. Shami has been bowling good bouncers off late. I would expect quite a few surprise bouncers from us. The key would be the element of surprise.
Cricketics Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 We should definitely try but make sure not to overdo. As long as we are not conceeding runs, we should keep trying, but let it not get backfired.

The main thing about Wahab's spell yesterday was the amazing accuracy of his bouncers....which he is normally not able to maintain. The pace of his bouncers were varying between 140 to 148.7 k. But his accuracy was always there. Wahab was bowling left arm over and making use of Watson's blind spot. That also created the effect. Regarding Indians ..... we bowled multiple good bouncers against South Africa , Pakistan and West Indies also....not just the minnows. Gayle, Amla, Younis, Misbah...all were dismissed off short balls. Apart from the dismissals many other fast and well directed bouncers have been bowled by Yadav and especially Shami in this WC.

Wahab had bowled at least 2 deliveries above 150k and quite a few in the 148-150k bracket. The speed stats dint capture it.They only started capturing his speeds from the 3rd over on wards. I have seen this happen in almost every match of ours. The quickest deliveries of Yadav in most matches were not captured. Still never saw him bowl above 148k this season.

I don't mind Yadav bowling 140 to 147 k provided he is reasonably accurate and taking wickets....like he is doing this WC. Even that is good pace. For a long long time I was waiting to see 2 Indian fast bowlers bowling accurately at atleast 140 to 145 k and taking wickets, maintaining presuure from both ends ...bowling good bouncers at will. Atlast it is happening. Isn't it great ! In India reasonable accuracy meant 132 k and I was tired of that.
MK55 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Yes..I'm glad too! Yadav and Shami are bowling well.. Hope they bowl with some extra intensity in the Semis. Regarding Wahab, he did bowl above 150k. You could have missed it.. I guess the highest was 150.8k. His first short delivery to Watson was 149k.

Yes earlier we used to either have fast sprayguns or accurate trundlers.Glad to see mix of both.I get a feeling Yadav is not going flat out for that reason like he used to.He hasnt touched 150 but it has benefitted us bcoz hes accurate now. Hopefully he does same in Tests.140 is more than enough if you have control n swing
Cricketics Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 We should not try it every ball. Just one or two surprise bouncers per over. Yes, that is the whole point. An odd ball here and there. Like to a new batsman. You have to have variations. Just can't keep bowling all good length or short or full. Mix it up.

Hopefully he does same in Tests.140 is more than enough if you have control n swing Yes, I really want to see our fast bowlers maintain this pace with accuracy combo instead of going for just one. Multiple pacers doing this has resulted in us getting the oppositions all out 7 times in a row. We have used the surprise bouncer very well too. Not too few and not too many...mostly well directed. Even our spinners are giving the ball a bigger tweak. That is the right approach.
adi B Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 the bounce is not that great in sydney compared to adelaide but morkel did pepper matthws with some short stuffs so why not try that against clarke and co? the problem is we do not have a left arm seamer (wahab's angle made it more tougher) and we dont have aaron who can bowl lethal bouncers at pace

In any case, a bit low bounce might actually be good - it might get to their necks instead of over the head. It would be a case of adjusting the length. Like we have seen at Perth (too much bounce), our bowlers were ready for the adjustment. I don't see why it should be a problem against Australia.

He had bowled 80 percent deliveries short at high pace without conceding wides. Aaron could have done that but he isnt there.
