Newzealand are traditionally Semi final Chokers as well :giggle: S.A have are synonymous with the word choke in sports Amla and Devillers can make runs throughout the year on any surface but choke when the stakes are high. Dale Steyn too has never delivered in this format when it mattered the most or Do you think the world will unveil a new choking star like they did with Donald and Kluesner in 1999

I don't agree that NZ are traditionally chokers. NZ always had been a good side that lacked the fire power to win big tourneys. It was good enough to somehow make it to the SF, but the other team usually had the firepower to extinguish NZ's hopes On the occasion when it was a strong side, Martin Crowe, the best batsman in that tourney had to sit out of the SF. And that was a big loss to NZ because Crowe had been inspirational .... In this edition, NZ is definitely a good team and deserves to play the final So you can say that over the years, NZ has pulled more weight in the tourneys to make it to the SFs On the other hand, SA has started off as fav in many tourneys. Done exceptionally well in the group stages but somehow choked in the KOs

NZ is a fantastic, energetic side. But not really known for "dhoniconda" style constriction. They almost let Windies loose. OZ, Padosis, Indians sometimes lungans are known for constricting the opposition . That is an advantage for SA.

That is an advantage for SA.[/quote'] Because in NZ the grounds are relatively smaller, a set batsman can make up the run rate in a few overs. Which is why in the "conda" tactics may not work there. The teams have to constantly look to pick up wkts and that is what NZ probably does at the cost of giving runs away

Good Post and I agree about Nz failing to click due to other reasons and mental strength never being their achillies heel. I don't think lack of fire power was ever a problem for them,In 1990's Post crowe era they had the likes of Astle,Mcmillan,Cairns....Even the likes of Harris and Twose were capable of turning it on when it mattered. The only bizarre thing about them is they played the quarters or a mandatory qualifying scenario like it was the final and the end all and seemed just mentally exhausted by the time the next challenge came up which usually was the semis. I remember in 1996 Q.F when out of nowhere CHris Harris and an unkown Lee Germon gave Aussies a scare....Geoff Alott came out of nowhere in 1999...EVen in the last edition the way the played the Q.F was amazing to watch but by the semis came along,they seemed a shell of themselves.

While NZ have not made it past the SFs as well, they have usually punched above their weight. SA has genuinely choked because they have had the best team for several WCs but haven't been able to make it past the SFs. And of course, there is always the Classic Donald and Klusener mix up that has completely epitomized SA choking over the years.

You don't need opposition to trigger choke. It was massive self-destruction in the end overs.
