I'm sure India has extended support to the Baloch Liberation forces in some way. If Pakistan decide to show their audacity again' date=' that support will become more active.[/quote'] Its just that they never openly admitted to it.

Kashmir is not a disputed area, always belonged to India and will always. If Kashmiris have issues with India/Indians why don't they migrate to Pakistan? The Indian government will be more than happy to provide free transportation.

Why not just hold a free and fair referendum and let the Kashmiris themselves decide for India' date=Pak or independence of both

Why not just hold a free and fair referendum and let the Kashmiris themselves decide for India' date='Pak or independence of both[/quote'] All minorities(Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, shias, ahmedis) or even the secular Sunnis in that state are firmly with India. That state consists of diff. parts - Jammu, Kashmir, ladakh, parts occupied by pak (where the demographics have been changed). Religious division in the choice of being with India or not,Indoctrination, Pak supported militency, the fact that 400 thousand Hindus were chased away from Kashmir by the terrorists etc - its a complex issue. But very few people want to go with pak. In an unofficial poll conducted by BBC in early 2000s, 45-50% wanted to be with India, the same %age wanted separate country, 5% wanted to go with pak iirc. Referendum is never happening (and should not be happening) BTW. Those tiny percentage who wanna move to pak are welcome to do so.

Historically, Pakistan had a solid case with regards to Kashmir. However, by deciding to use coercive means to force the accession, Pakistan played directly into India's hands. They also committed plenty of tactical blunders. There is no need for a referendum. Legally, India has all the documents to support its claim, whereas Pakistan has only rhetoric. 2. One of the pre-requisites for a referendum to take place is the bi-lateral demilitarization of the area, starting with Pakistan withdrawing its forces. Pakistan never withdrew its troops. 3. Present day scenario, the demography of the area has been heavily altered, with mass exodii of people on both sides. 4. A part of the former Kingdom, which acceded to India, is under Chinese occupation since the 1962 Indo-Sino war. + Pakistan has gifted/leased a portion of POK to China http://www.hindustantimes.com/chandigarh/pak-s-gilgit-lease-to-china-catches-indian-army-unawares/article1-815671.aspx So you can see, the scope for a free and fair referendum is miniscule. J&K is by all legal means a part of India. Theoretically, an open-shut case. It is just that on the ground, things are a bit different.
For a few reasons: 1. The Maharaja of the Kingdom of Jammu and Kashmir has already acceded the kingdom to the Union of India. Here are pics of the instrument:

Why not just hold a free and fair referendum and let the Kashmiris themselves decide for India' date='Pak or independence of both[/quote'] Becoz we are not yet mature as a democracy . I mean even a developed democracy like Spain is refusing to hold referendum for Catalunya .How do u expect this is sub continenent Also until terrorism and extremists are eliminated and normalcy is returned everyone calling for referendum will be associated with terrorists .So there is never even any chance of public free debate about this anytime soon

Why not just hold a free and fair referendum and let the Kashmiris themselves decide for India' date='Pak or independence of both[/quote'] Sure. Lets hold tehsil by tehsil referendums in ALL of kashmir. That wouldnt hinder india too much. That way ladakh, jammu and baltistan will be indian, gilgit, kashmir valley and azad kashmir will be pakistani. Independence wont fly even with kashmiris. Sent from my GT-S5830D using Tapatalk 2

They are better off being with either India or China than being independent. In an area as strategic as J&K, an independent, tiny state will always be in danger of hostile occupation. Being neighbored by Pak, Afg, India and China doesn't help either.
