Cricket_Hacker Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 TOKYO: Japan's state-of-the-art maglev train clocked a new world speed record Tuesday in a test run near Mount Fuji, smashing through the 600 kilometre (373 miles) per hour mark, as Tokyo races to sell the technology abroad. The seven-car maglev train - short for "magnetic levitation" - hit a top speed of 603 kilometres an hour, and managed nearly 11 seconds at over 600kph, operator Central Japan Railway said. The new record came less than a week after the company recorded a top speed of 590 kph, breaking its own 2003 record of 581 kph. Japanese PM Shinzo Abe will be performing the role of a traveling salesman to try and sell this technology to other countries. In the near future at least, nobody will be buying this technology except for the U.S.maybe. The cost to lay just the Tokyo-Osaka line for this train will be about $100 billion. And it will take at least 20-30 more years if the project even goes ahead. Japan is hoping to convince Obama with this experiment to use this technology for the Boston-DC rail project that he has envisioned.

Electric trains are more environmentally friendly. NareshK Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 ^^Even these bullet trains use a lot of fuel. Building them is also way more expensive. Seems like a showpiece to exhibit they have technology to build something like that more than anything else.
