Eating certain foods/diet has an impact on height apart from genes? I have seen some second generation immigrants who are relatively taller... wondering if it is the diet/lifestyle in these cases.

5'10 Average heights of Indian men and women are 5 ft 5 in (165 cm) and 5 ft (152 cm) respectively. This information is based on a 2006 study by National Institute of Nutrition (Indian Council of Medical Research). Isnt 5'5 average too less, most of the guys i know are between 5'7 to 6'2.

It is less. But in some states average height is less. So they all even out. Even in USA the average height for male has become 5'10" only recently.

I am between 5 10 and 5 11. With regards to height its a combination of your genes and environment. The Dutch were one of the shortest people in europe as they (and belgium) were always warzones of the part wedged between France Germany and the UK. A sort of kings landing before Aegon landed. A century of relative peace and wealth and they have grown to the tallest. My mom is 5 foot 4 and my dad is 5 foot 7. So i think i have followed the norm of building on my parents heights due to a much better nutritional upbringing. The Indian population in the UK is slowly catching upto the British norm. The average British male is like 5 10 while the average British Indian born in the uk and raised is like 5 9. So it does highlight that environment does play its part. To make this a quantitative explanation, say yt is your height. a0 is the intercept which is based on your genes. basically what generations of ancestors before you have averaged. Let Envi be the environment of growth. So yt = a0 + a1 Envi + error term For most Indians the a1 term is increasing rapidly as wealth increase and nutrition etc increases.

man I was 5'11 when I was 17 years old. now 22 and haven't grown an inch :(( :(
I was 5'7.5" when 15. Now I'll be 25 in July, and I have actually lost half an inch. Tragic really, because 15 was the age computer games spoiled me.
