MK55 Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 After watching IPL, I think Iyer can definitely be brought in. Pandya can also be considered as he can bowl a few overs and played some crucial knocks under pressure. Samson/Hooda/Sarfaraz are good prospects. Hooda needs to get more consistent.

maniac Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 Well I know the reaction of throwing in Yusuf Pathan is totally random but here is the thing....Wriddhiman Saha has a IPL 100 and has played some quick innings but for people who have seen him play international cricket,can you even compare him with the likes of Russell and Faulkner? Rayudu smashes the ball around in IPL but becomes a grafter and consolidator in ODI's. SKYadav,Pandya,Negi well worth a try but I can bet right now that at the max only one of the 3 has what it takes to be a power hitter. Iyer and Hooda seem like proper batsman who can strike the ball...we already have those in Rohit,Kohli,Raina,Dhawan and even Rahane. I keep using the term power hitter because every strong team these days has a player who plays his game regardless of the situation and when it comes off,teams are off the hook and when it doesn't they end up with the same mediocre score anyways. Today not Dhonis fault(his innings with the bat) but a 40 odd from 70 balls does nothing. We saw Elliot and Ronchi get Newzealand to 300+ from a similar situation we were in against Srilanka,We see this new style of play from England and they almost got 300 despite being bowled out in 45th over. Saw likes of Russell,Sammy get WI out of a hole and give them a way more competitive score than expected with their crazy hitting. Australia has Faulkner,Marsh,Johnson,Watson and Maxwell who go for it regardless.....Maxwell is backed despite flopping because he comes good in one game he can win matches that are almost gone,if he flops there are other capable players. We need a player who can go from ball one and feast on tundlers and spinners...Dhoni used to be that guy,don't see Jaddu or Patel or Binny capable of that. Hence the only name I know that fits the bill Yusuf or even Pandya but that's it.

Mandeep Singh will not get a chance yet because he is competing for a slot with Rayudu/Rahane which is a slot for a proper batsman who can score fast,I am sure lot of them are in the pecking order along with Mandeep ofcourse. Pandya a big YES because we need an actual hitter to replace Jaddu/Axar/Binny in the 6-7 slot....I would have said throw out Ashwin too but he is our best bowler in the absence of Shami

I would say something like (just for idea sake): Rohit Dhawan Kohli Jadhav/Any in form No 4 Raina Naman Ojha/Samson/Saha Hardik Pandya Ashwin Mishra/another spinner/pacer (depending on situation) Yadav Shami So for 50 overs, we have 4 front line bowlers and then 3 bowlers (Pandya, Raina and Kohli) to complete the quota. Hooda could be a great option for AR too but sadly he is a chucker and will be banned from bowling.

Raina is the biggest hitter in the side. Cannot just bring in D-grade batsmen in that role for sake of it though. So nothing can be done about that until a quality lower/middle order hitter is found.
