When the likes of Gavakskar retired there were already talks of an young talent Tendulkar in domestic cricket. In mid 90's, Dravid and Ganguly were clearly showing signs of next big thing. Then in new millenium we produce batsmen like Sehwag, VVS, Yuvi, MSD etc. In 2011, Kohli happened. But if you look into our domestic cricket now there is no real batsman knocking the door and giving headache to selectors. The likes of Jadhav, Tiwary, Nair, Sampson does not inspire the same confidence as their predecessors. I know the likes of Kohli, Rohit & Raina are still young and will carry India's batting for next 5 years. But what after that? I do not see any solid batsman coming up from domestic circuit. The likes of Unmukt Chand etc. were all hyped up but could not deliver. So why you think we have stopped producing world class batsman in domestic cricket?

What we aren't producing are enough attacking batsmen suitable for LOIs. Rohit and Raina to carry forward for the next 5 years? Raina is a gun LOI player, yes, but Rohit doesn't evoke much confidence. You've left out our top test bats, Rahane and Vijay. Without them our already pathetic test performances would've looked even more pathetic. Just hope Pujara gets back to form. Rahane, Vijay, Pujara and Kohli - the test line up looks pretty solid.
Gollum Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 At least in tests we have 3 world class batsmen in Jinx, Mooli and Kohli, as good as anything the rest of the world has to offer. Hopefully Che joins them soon. In ODIs situation is quite grim. :((

youngindia Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 The batting pool is excellent and promising to say the least... what we have is ignorance and lack of awareness ..too many ppl only know data on the scoreboard and nothing else.. before our tours commenced lin sa ,everyone except kohli and pujara was supposed to fail...why? at that time only pujara and kohli had figures Vijay especially was supposed to fail miserably basically all it takes is one season of bad form and that player will be a failure for the rest of his life according to some "wisdom" here. Another thing is lack of understanding of player development, younger players have some way to go in developing skills ,both sporting and mental. there are absurd expectations of them and a lot of nonsense is written here. the reality is individuals are allowed to develop at their own pace and they are going to progress only by building their games brick by brick. the ones who succeed will be the most cricket intelligent,show better ability to learn and adapt and better discipline. it will be decided on the cricket field.not by uninformed speculation in forums.

Clarke Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 I still believe in Rahane, for me he's our #1 batsman wrt ability and can succeed long term in tests as well as ODIs. Dravid begin on a slow note as well and blossomed later in limited overs, Rahane has the work ethic in him to do the same.

Will probably be a West Bengal Dalmiya quota selection Samson-- not sure of him with the gloves, could be a decent batter Uttappa-- terrible with the gloves and not sure again has the technique with the bat

But since that NZ tour, he's failed to finish off whether its bat first or while chasing. However I think he'll do just fine at no.4. He can keep it moving in the middle overs and once he's settled he can give us the lift as well to kick off the slog over hitting.

But we get to see the likes of Tiwary, Uthappa, Jhadav, Vijay. Who are hardly the candidates that can make it to 2019 WC. Some seriously pointless selections
