Harsh Thakor Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 This is my choice of the 10 best innings in a test match by a left -handed batsmen in order of merit..I have considered the situation and conditions. 1.Brian Lara's 153 n.o at Bridgetown in 1999-Batted like a surgeon performing an operation on patient considered incurable.In a run chase on a broken wicket enabled his team to prevail by one wicket in attaining a score of 308 runs.Looked like an architect and soldier moulded into one.Great exhibition of temperament and creativity moulded together. 2.Graeme Pollock's 125 at Trent Bridge in 1965 Displayed the control of a pilot controlling a bomber plane and a military commander averting defeat in a war.Scored 77% of his team's total when he was out,ressurecting his team from the grave. 3.Neil Harvey's 151 n.o out of 336 in 1950 Steered his team home on in a run chase a most difficult track like a soldier fighting battle in alien conditions. 4.Roy Fredrick's 169 at Perth Resembled the blitzkrieg of an army batallion destroying an enemy base.Roy made the bowlers look like cattle walking to a slaughterhouse.For sheer domination I would place it at the top amongst innings by a left-hander. 5.Gary Sober's 132 in the 1960-61 tied test at Brisbane. Bissected the field like cake being sliced to perfection.Few innings have ever been as majestic or technically sound.Scored in most difficult circumstances. 6.Gary Sober's 254 at Melbourne v Australia Took the bowling by the scruff of the neck like a tiger tearing it's prey.Few better exhibitions against great pace bowling.Sobers exhibited the imperious command of an emperor like Alexander creating the impact of a bomber raiding an airbase. 7.Brian Lara's 277 at Sydney From a technical point of view arguably the best innings ever played by a left-hander .Lara's domination of bowling was complete and he displayed the creativity of a magician. 8.Alan Border's 98 and 100 at Trinidad in 1984 The most heroic effort arguably in a crisis to save a match.Border literally saved his team who were heading towards certain defeat,saving a sinking ship. 9.Brian Lara's 400 n.o in 2004 at Antigua Statistically a milestone although technically not as good as Lara's other classic knocks.Still batted with the grit of a mountaineeer climbing a new peak. 10.Saed Anwar's 173 n.o v India at Kolkata in 1999 majestic display of batting in difficult conditions
mishra Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Anwar ahead of Kirsten and Hayden. Both have played some gem innings. Haydens 203 against India in Chennai was probably one of the best innings by an Aussie in India or any vistor batsmen in India.

From an Indian perspective-In more recent times Gautam Gambhir's innings in Napier vs New Zealand to save a test match, Ganguly's knock in Gabba should be considered. Also Hayden's knock vs India

Does this mean, it's easy playing in sub-continent pitches
