I thought Australia will end his career-Owned them too(Initially owned themselves just like us by overattacking him) Then I thought there is a pattern here...just play him off,don't give him wickets and he will deliver the odd long hop or the loose ball,being an average pie chucker-humble pies there too. 3 wickets again today. Are we missing something or is he really that good....This guy keeps delivering,may be everyone underrates him. Don't know how he does it,but it is working for England

Paki batsmen know the place very well and are very solid in their "home" territory. Sarfaraz, Azhar Ali, Misbah and of course the peerless Younis will prove to be a tough team to crack. Even the "lesser" batsmen such as Shafiq, etc avg over 40.
Sooda Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Yes very underrated, have seen him being called litmited talent etc. He is the 2nd highest run scorer for Eng this series and taking wickets reguarly, played a key role in the Ashes win. Does nothing fancy with the ball but is tight and consistent. Good batsman.

Has been handled comfortably by Aussies, and gained wkts when they attacked him too much rather than playing prudently. As time goes by, I think he will shift from being a bowling allrounder (at No.8) presently to a batting allrounder who takes about 2 wkts per match.

maniac Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 The thing is apart from the odd beard loving Paki and the England team management ,everyone thought he was ordinary.....I have seen cricketing pundits like Chappell and Boycott talk about him with absolute disdain......He always felt like he was that one back to back failure away from being dropped but he keeps chipping away :hatsoff:

He spins the ball and gives enough flight , which very few modern day spinners do .so will continue take wickets with so many batsmen these days struggling especially against offspin For me he's the best LOI package atm , better batsmen than sakib and bowling at least par or better

In the first innings of this match every time he started a spell his first ball went for 4. Batsman just attack him too much most of the time and become complacent.

The closest analogy for Moeen is Jason Krejza - both are reasonably capable bowlers but they get wickets because tempt batsmen to play lots of shots and then attract some mistakes from them.

Has the potential of being a symonds in the longer format - might lose out to him in batting skills but is better with the ball. A compromise for a swann. Symonds was a more effective batsman despite Ali's elegant strokeplay. As for bowling, Ali is a far better bowler... in Tests, Symonds was a trundler who picked up the odd wicket.
