Team for next test Rahul Naman Rahane Kohli Nair Rohit Ashwin Kumar Mishra Ishant Yadav
N. Ojha can't keep and then open the innings - too much strain. Besides, he doesn't open in FC cricket either; does open in 50 over matches but they are a diff story.

Cheteshwar Pujara to play as opener in third Test After winning the second Test and levelling the three-match series, India skipper Virat Kohli confirmed that Cheteshwar Pujara will play the deciding third Test, starting on August 28th, and open the innings alongside Lokesh Rahul. Regular opener Murali Vijay, who had missed the first Test due to hamstring injury, had earlier been ruled out of the remainder of the series and the uncapped Karnataka batsman Karun Nair was called up to the squad. "Looking at these conditions the reason behind getting Nair is we can have Pujara opening. He's done it before in these conditions. The idea is to have Pujara open with Rahul since it's only one Test. He's done it in the past and I'm confident he can do it in the next Test," Virat Kohli said in the press conference after the Colombo Test win. Pujara has warmed the bench for a while with the likes of Lokesh Rahul and Rohit Sharma being preferred over him. Kohli praised Pujara's attitude, Ajinkya Rahane's flexibility and hinted at not changing a lot in their batting order. "When there is the demand for Pujara to open in the next Test, he's happy to do it. I firmly believe that we need to play the best eleven to win. Chopping and changing, I don't mind so much. Someone like Pujara will understand if he has to open for just one Test and then maybe sit out for the next. As professional sportsmen you understand the reasoning. We'll try to stick to the same batting order for the next match. We know that Rahane can bat at number three, five or six. Rohit is capable of batting at five. Good to have flexibility,"Kohli added. http://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/74332/cheteshwar-pujara-to-play-as-opener-in-third-test
Looks like Pujara will get one game, and irrespective of how he performs, will then return to the bench

"Perform or perish - either way, we don't care" is the message that the management has sent Chepu. I won't be surprised if he loses all motivation and makes low scores.

Does the captain have the right to say something like that? What if Che scores a 200 there and Rohit scores 2 ducks? Feel gutted for Che, does VK have something personal against him?

Yes, doesn't have the "aggression", "flair", etc that Nohit and Bunny have. He also probably lacks the necessary toadying skills to succeed in Indian cricket. Kohli, like MSD, wants only yes-men around him; who are all too happy to bend over and let VK walk over them (and do other things). This statement from VK is unprofessional and even rather insultingly condescending.

That's really stupid to say .Maybe taken out of context But really hope Pujara scores 200 next .Then the team management will find it hard to drop him . What's amusing if the team thinkbtank believe Rohit is better no.3 than Pujara then why is Rohit not asked to open and is being hidden at no.5 ?

In the last 5 years' date=' except for the last game which you guys won in 2014 against Pakistan...all were draws.[/quote'] SSC has been traditionally SL's fortress... however, let's not get hung on the past. We all need to look to the present and the future.

Thinkthank don't need logic - they just care about shouting the words "aggression" loudly and repeatedly. On a diff note, VK has made it explicitly clear that even in Chepu does well, he will be benched subsequently.

I don't understand what's all the hoo-hah about Pujara. Yes it was good that he scored double century and that was something like 2-3 years ago. It's not like he had been dropped from the team after just 1 or 2 failures. He was the regular member of the team from the past year and yet let down the team on many occasions. And his scoring rate is incredibly slow, putting unnecessary pressure on other batsmen. It's unfair on part of other players who's been regularly scoring runs in the domestic and still not be able to represent India.

Dravid was a slow batsman too and failed in Australia, people like you would have wants Dravid to be dropped too.

His record at home is outstanding
