GG better than Nohit.. perhaps. GG better than likes of Nair and other youngsters pushing for place in team - possibly not.

Somehow I never rated GG that high in tests(ODIs/T20s different matter, he was very good in those formats). He had a great purple patch but his poking tendency was mindbogglingly amateurish waiting to be exposed by good attacks at some point. His batting in the last England tour was embarrassingly poor even by Raina/Nohit standards. He doesn't deserve to comeback in test cricket although our entire system is so corrupt/unprofessional that his return may yet be possible. He can look back at his career happily because he made the most of his limited talents through sheer hard work.

I think people are reading too much. You dont know what is happening behind the scenes. In this series he has been asked to open (when he is usually at one down) quite early in his career and at the same time also kept wicket. Again we dont know if the team managers asked him to keep wicket in practise in the lead upto the test as they may want to play Nair as an extra bat. That may have also contributed to his initial weak start.

We have already seen what happened when GG was given yet another chance in England, yet some people want him back. We already saw how pi$$ poor Bhajji was when he was brought back despite zero qualifications in terms of domestic performances. We already saw what an utter disgrace of a selection Raina was when he was brought back despite known limitations with his batting. We already saw how bringing back an unfit and out-of-form Yuvraj Singh cost us a World T20 crown. Can't we just keep these tried and tested players past their expiry date away and done with?
