He is the second highest run-scorer in Ranji cricket and yet never got a chance. There are plenty of batsmen with wonderful statistics that never got a chance. Surendra Bhave (average: 58) and Shantanu Sugwekar (average: 63) from Maharashtra team both scored tons of runs in FC cricket, yet they never played any international cricket. Among current players, look at Dheeraj Jadhav's case too. Never got a chance despite all batsmen from TN (Badri, Vijay, Mukund) getting chances thanks to the combination of Srini-Cheeka-Dhoni (CSK connection). It is very clear that under Cheeka's selection committee and with Srini as BCCI president, TN players benefited more than they deserved. The most glaring example of this is Pankaj Singh, whose career has been ruined thanks to Srini's personal animosity towards the Rajasthan cricket board, which welcomed back Lalit Modi. Akash chopra wrote an article about it as well on why rajasthan players were continuously ignored even after they won two ranji titles back to back.

I agree that historically chennai,Mumbai,karnataka and Delhi lobby have ruled the roost with occasional crumbs picked up by Hyderabad,Punjab.bengal hasn't been good enough apart from ganguly. I agree that historically chennai,Mumbai,karnataka and Delhi lobby have ruled the roost with occasional crumbs picked up by Hyderabad,Punjab.bengal hasn't been good enough apart from ganguly. Likes of Rajasthan,Orissa,a.p or even railways have been an after thought I agree India were never able to utilize their large talent pool due to some powerful state associations. Things are changing now with a lot of small towners coming through the ranks.

Yes debatable but hrishikesh got an extended run thanks to being an ind-pak hero but apart from kamblis repeated chances or bahatule don't know if there were too many debatable Mumbai picks.....I might be wrong though

Kanitkar was from Maharashtra, who have hardly ever have had any representation in the Indian team. So, I wouldn't call it a "quota" pick. He did get an extended run in ODIs. But that was also a time when we were struggling to find middle-order batsmen. Remember Jacob Martin, Rohan Gavaskar, Ameya Khurasia?

At least he considered fast bowling is important.

Exclude this year in ODIs and his record against the Windies in ODIs, and that is exactly what he has been doing in ODIs - for years and years.. However, I'll be glad if he proves the naysayers and doubters wrong in the NZ series.

Not beaten or anything. No struggles. Just got out, stuff happens Still averages over 60:finger:
