The part I liked best was that.... he retired because he thought he had lost the pace required to bowl on Indian pitches.  He did not drag on. 

Sadly, some pacers who replaced him were slower than he was at the time of retirement.

I remember Harvinder Singh...the pacer Srinath mentions. He was pacy and liked to bowl a lot of short deliveries. He lacked the height to bowl consistently short though. Could not really take his game to the next level.

Srinath "The Mysore Express" was my favorite Indian bowler. Sadly Indian bowlers are always treated as 2nd class citizen's compared to the batsman...

And he clocked 143kph in 2003WC! And the humble man says he wasn't quick enough. I would have loved had the interviewer asked him about his pace.

SJ: India lost abroad at the time. Ajit Wadekar and Mohammad Azharuddin set a plan for winning at home, but it seemed to be a short-term strategy. You were not developing the third or fourth fast bowler for when you went abroad.

JS: We paid some penalty there, I suppose. We won all the matches here, but when we went abroad our batsmen couldn't adjust and our bowling wasn't that effective.

Very little has changed in the last 20 years.

Seeing Srinath bowl in Australia for the first time, in 1991 was such an exciting experience. A genuine fast bowler from India bowling in Australia was a treat for the fast-bowling fans like me. The amount of bounce he got from length seemed surreal. 

Always liked him the most among all Indian pace bowlers till date.

Yeah he had decent pace. He used to have a big leap just before bowling. Found his bowling video.

JS: I think various formats have slowed down [the development of] many fast bowlers in India. When you are a fast bowler, you bowl with certain pride. That pride is gone for a toss in T20s. You end up giving 40 to 45 runs or even more. You are not very instrumental in winning matches. If you go by the ratio, in every 20 games the bowlers are going to win one game for you. It is absolutely a batsman-oriented game.

ICC should replace bowlers with bowling machines for T20.

Was just watching this old match again. watch from 21:00 , see how fast Srinath seems to be bowling and the SA batsmen clearly hopping out of discomfort.

I did that too. Did not succeed really.

He was a humble man and a true gentleman for sure. Would perhaps never have become a bowler if he were a trundler in his prime.

Srinath's USP was the disconcerting bounce he got from length deliveries ....even when he was near retirement.

Would perhaps have got more chances if he played nowadays. The concept of persisting with a guy with reasonable potential, once he is picked, was not really there at that time.

i liked watching him.....he is better than current crop of bolwers
